Thread: switching to airtel from bsnl

For the past year my downstream snr value is low and downstream attenuation value is high. I have complained and asked them to check my telephone line. The bsnl people say my telephone line is perfectly alright.

After seeing airtel broadband speeds at my friend's house(mantri paradise) on bannerghata road. He has a 2 mbps Rs. 2222 plan. He gets speeds of 240-246 kBps during daytime. Will post screenshot soon!

I used to have home 500 plan(2 mbps) from bsnl. I only saw 170-180 kBps at night( 2-8 am). I now have UL750 from BSNL.

I have an airtel landline. Should I switch to Airtel? Please also suggest a plan if so?

the one i got is answered as " nooo" dont worry i hate BSNL to, even though i am robbing them by downloading lots of free stuff.

I had the same problem with BSNL that you are facing for more than 7 months ,SNR ratio was horribly low , the BSNL DNS also sucks so when u get connected , u cannot browse , then there's always a fiber break every now and then , BSNL blames the road construction guys , simply said , BSNL is a govt run organisation any repair work will take ages , When I had BSNL UL 750 Plan , I used to get pathetic speeds ( 18 KBps on a 256 Kbps connection ) and disconnection problems are frequent , so I gave up , switched to Airtel broadband after a colleague at work recommended it , now I am a more than satisfied customer , in the last 4 months I have had 93 to 99 % uptime , I am not kidding , 93 to 99% uptime !!! ( I always get above the promised speed , usually getting an average of 300 Kbps ( 37.5 KBps) on the 256 Kbps plan , even every 2 months , guys from airtel come home to check the line quality , Go for Airtel broadband blind folded man , It's only 50 rupees costiler than BSNL for 256 Kbps , whats more , the other day , I enquired about their new plan 888 plus where u get 512 Kbps unlimited in the night time for just 88 Rs extra than the 256 plan , all unlimited . I should have gone for Airtel long time ago , but it was better late then never . I live in Pune . F.Y.I ...... ( Trust me , you are making the right decission )

what a brilliant plan!!! its unlimited right? I live in bangalore karnataka. I chkd on airtel website. the plan is not there. hav u faced any disconnection in torrent downloads during night. for me with bsnl when i put downloads for night, in the morning modem will be switched on and torrent wud not hav completed ie i hav got disconnected in the middle of the night.

75 kBps in 512 kbps connection. That rocks!! Btw there should be green check sign on utorrent next to the total download speed.

75 kBps in 512 kbps connection. That rocks!! Btw there should be green check sign on utorrent next to the total download speed.

Yes it is unlimited , I have 0 disconnection problems , if you have an unlimited connection , then it's best to configure your router to work via PPPoE mode instead of bridged ( via Win XP Dialer ) even though the dialer can re-connect it's not always reliable , I had lots of problems with BSNL even when in PPPoE mode , my switch to Airtel was the single most rewarding decision ever.

Please post how much you could download in 24 hours and how much you did in one month. I hope it is introduced as soon as possible in bangalore.

How much I can do in an hour ??? , I only get 512Kbps between 10:30 pm to 6:30am

I get an average speed of around 70 KBps on 512Kbps for 8 Hrs , even then lets take the theoritical maximum of 512 / 8 = 64KBps,

Add Scheduled Task in Windows XP .

It works like a charm , saves you from having to reboot your router manually

About the screenshots , well computer is shared over a network of 3 computers for watching movies and music so if I log the traffic , it will include internet traffic + data that has been accessed from my machine , so it will be a little bit difficult to give u accurate number of the data transfer , now if I could get airtel to give me my username and password so that I could check my data transferr online

Nice. I called up airtel customer support. They dont know when the 888 plan will be introduced in karnataka. I know calculation was kind of bugging. I could have done it myself. I hope airtel introduces 888 plan really soon in karnataka.

I Also am satisfied with airtel Tried Bsnl For An year After calling customer care ( well i dont remember how many times till i realised they dont do anything but things get ok after 3-4 days ) i decided on Airtel But Still on BSNL Combo plan just becoz of their night free pack.
Please let me know when Airtel Comes up with Night unlimited in Bangalore................. Thanks..............

Have you noticed a sudden hike in speed on Airtel Broadband this week ? , I mean I know there are spikes for a couple of hours but for ive been getting 2 Mbps for 4 days non stop .

Why is later in karnataka

@jakemake123456, 240 kBps on the 888 plan. Thats too good. I am definitely switching to airtel when the plan is introduced in karnataka. Theres no doubt about it.

Its once of the perks of being an Airtel Broadband customer , u get such speed hikes once or twice in a month or in 2 months ( it is not assured ) otherwise u get the standard speeds.

But man , I have already downloaded another 45 GB in 3 days . :w00t:

@jakemake123456, my friend was on unlimited 128 kbps plan and experienced high download speeds. He called airtel up. He was given a free trial of 2 mbps unlimited download for 3 months. I am not suggesting you to call up airtel. :rockon:

Yeah , downloaded close to 180 GB of data in 10 days , made full use of it
