Default Guys tell me if this is legal

I'm on an airtel 128 Ul connection and a frnd of mine , who barely uses his PC has 384 UL (we both share the same box) . Is it possible to swap our connections just by interchanging modem configuration? (Sorry if this is a n00bish question )

Well the question was on legality. It is not (legal). What someone does later is his/her own issue.

No it is not possible to use another account by merely changing modem config.

Yes it is illegal to share an internet connection outside the premisis it has been provided for.

U cannot change the modem settings.
wat u can do is, get the permission from them that we want to share the connection in 2 PC's and purchase a Hub or Switch and connect the ethernet cable to it.
Then you can connect both the PC together and use Proxy settings in the 2nd PC...

    Cheers,
    Chaitali

Permission not required if the sharing is done within the same premises. But a router configured in pppoe mode calls for action.

If you are in the same flat/apartment complex
get an extension of your friend's telephone connection
    to your flat,

and use your modem in Dialer mode with his
userID and Password. when using the extension.

(Airtel provided the extension FREE of cost for similar
    arrangement. Both flats same owner.)

Your BB connection also will be in Dialer mode.
Only one of you can use BB (or telephone) at a time.

Since both of you have unlimited plan no problem about usage.
As per latest "FUP" of Airtel, the speed of download
will be 50% of the plan after exceeding a D/L quota.
