    Exclamation Wa1003a modem issues

    Hi guys.

I recently got the Airtel 256 kbps UL plan. I had the Huawei WA1003A adsl modem from dataone , which i configured for using with airtel. I am now able to wirelessly connect using two laptops. Problem is, my desktop is unable to connect to the internet through the lan port. (The modem has 1 usb/1 lan port and wireless connectivity). When i connect the lan cable to the laptop however, i am able to browse. that is, lan port doesn't work with the desktop. i formatted the OS , uninstalled the firewall (ZA) but to no avail. The laptops are allocated ip addresses automatically by the onboard dhcp server, but the desktop behaves eratically, taking IP sometimes and sometimes not.

    Please Help.

    Check your ethernet card settings.

just check your desktop setting and make sure your IP settings are obtain an IP address automatically apart from that you can go to command prompt and try relese and renew IP command, that may help you but as you said you already tried to reinstall complete OS then it may not work for you better idea is to get you NIC checked it may be a conflict with that or it is not picking up IP correctly, to resolve this NIC issue first you can try to reinstall NIC otherwise you can delete winsock and winsock 2 folders from system registry (H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services) and then can reinstall TCP/IP files from LAN propertis from C:/windows/inf folder.
But please dont try this registry step if you are not sure how to reinstall TCP/IP. Please update if you need some screenshots or guide to reinstall this i can update here.

    Change the order of DNS.
Use OPendns 208.67.220.220 as first entry.
    IP Config seems OK..
    Try a new LAN connection.
    Start/All Programs/Accessories/Communication/ Network connection wizard.

Isn't it possible the LAN port of the desktop or the LAN card itself is the problem? Sometimes we overlook the obvious.

If the mobo has built in LAN, confirm that LAN port is functioning. If you are using a LAN card try checking whether it has come loose or fit it in another PCI slot.

the lan port & cable are fine. i hooked up the pc using another adsl modem and it works fine with that. i also connected the lan port on the huawei to the lappy's lan port and that also works fine. only the pc and huawei modem seem to have issues when connected via lan.

    Modem WA1003A:
Two laptops work in WIFI mode.
    1.desktop+ WA1003A LAN FAIL.
    2.desktop+ adsl modem 2(make ?) LAN OK.
    3.laptop+ WA1003A modem LAN OK.
    Suggestion:
    4.Compare/post Ipconfig/all of Desktop computer in condition 1 & 2.
    5. Or In the Desktop
change Obtain IP address automatically in TCP/IP properties.
    6. feedback please.
