Default Ports blocked!! help!!!

Hi,

I seem to have this problem with my UTorrent ports. I use Utorrent and for the past week or so i see the Red icon flashing on my Utorrent client saying that the port does not seem to be open. I get good speeds on some torrents and on others i get pitiful speeds. I am on a 1 mbps unlimited connection, and i use a Zyxel router. I have done the port forwarding on the Zyxel page as directed by the tech team in Airtel but there seems to be no improvement. Would appreciate t if someone could help me fix this problem.

Incidentally while i was with Tata Indicom i never had this issue of ports being blocked. And i have only just switched over to Airtel. 12 days now.

Thanks,

ReB

Mention ZYXel model number. Post screen shot of settings for the site.
Check in Portforward.com
see access control page if any and enable WAN/LAN
from another modem Beetel 220BX1

Are you on "Dialup" mode ? All ports are open.

Hello Essbebe,

Thanks for replying to my post. To answer your questions here are the details.

ZyXel model no: 660R-T1v2 (checked for this model on Portforward . com but could not find it)
I will post a screen shot of the settings when i get back home (probably 5 hours from now)
WAN/LAN have been enabled
I have the Beetel 110BX1 but am unsure how to portforward that
I am on the always on mode

I had a doubt regarding Utorrent, so i D/L Azureus and checked the ports.. same result there. On Azureus it showed that the NAT firewall was not allowing any incoming connections, but when i checked the NAT page on the Router config page there is no firewall option. This is Just FYI.

Regards,

ReB

I am also facing a similar problem from last week.
I'm able to dwnld from utorent but speeds are not good and after sometime my internet stops working. when i open a browser it says "resolving host" which happens when there's a problem with DNS server but when i restart the modem it starts working again but at low speeds. I have a 1Mbps UL connection.

Try this : http://www.indiabroadband.net/sify-b...broadband.html (Torrents not working on sify broadband) This will use a different port for tracker and your speed will go back to normal.... It doesnt matter which isp you use.

If your isp is blocking a port like 6969 and a few other which are normally used by torrent trackers then this would solve your issue.

If your problem is resolved using this please dont forget to post a little comment

Thanks

Hi,

First up thanks to all for replying to my post. Now to the nitty gritty...

As mentioned earlier i had issues with Utorrent saying that my NAT/Firewall was blocking my ports. So i went to port forward and checked for my router (ZyXel P660R-T1 v2), which incidentally is not listed. So i called up Airtel and the nice lady there helped me to forward my port (56525). Then i go back to my torrent client and Viola!!, still not working!! .. then i decide to do a little research about the whole blocked port thingy. I stumble across a page from Microsoft which helped me to manually allow ports in my firewall. I did the whole manually allow ports in my connections thing and i found that the connections icon in Utorrent was green . Then i thought why not restart the machine since it was on for about 48 hours.. and when i got back to the Utorrent page it was back to stage 1 , and no amount of going back and freeing up ports helped. So now i am unsure as to what is causing the problem.. Is it my NAT or is it my firewall (I tried turning off my firewall but that did'nt help either). I did try to go back to my router page and change my ports again but it gave me an error. Now i am totally clueless.
How did it work when i freed up the port in my firewall and then why did it revert back? Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

As far as speed is concerned i get good speeds from the private torrent sites that i DL from, but its the public torrents that stifle my speeds!! (should'nt it be the other way around?) An Example: I've been DL'ing Prison Break Season 3 for the past 4 days Seeds=341 leechers=1563, am getting an average speed of 11.4 KBps down and am managing to connect to 5 seeders at the most and 7 leechers. The seeds disappear (disconnect) from time to time (probably because of the firewall thing). On the other hand when i DL from a private tracker i get excellent speeds (125 KBps +) even though i am only connected to 2 seeders and 3 leechers max and no disconnections!!

I never had this issue when i was with Tata Indicom! should i go back to them? LOL.

I'm sure there must be someone out there who has gone through the same issue as i and there must be some who are going through the same right now... So i'm hoping that this thread and the solutions (that will be provided by the helpful people out here) will help them solve this issue.. cause i know how frustrating this can be!!

Thanks one and all for reading this post and for providing their inputs!

1. ZyXEL Manual for your zyxel router.
2. Beetel 110BX1 identical to Beetel 220BX1 with additional menu options like ddns etc.
In Portforward com select this router. Basically you are asked to have a "Static" IP
, as isps allot dynamic IPs to home users.
Did not read your last post fully. will update later.
I always rely on user manuals for each modem/router

How do i create a static IP? when i queried Airtel they said that static IP's are only issued for commercial plan's and not for home plans!

Now this is a Pain in the nether regions that is not going away!!
