Most of the set top boxes are locked to the particular service provider. Altering the firmware may help u, but be advised that an incorrect updation procedure will result with an expensive door-block.

Is there any way to modify the IP address and use this box on other broadband or these boxes are completely locked, cannot be used on other broadband.

Please give your expert opinion.
At this momment Interpolation is unkown.
as Bureau of Indian Standards is yet to make standard of IPTV.

much like its counterpart, DTH
at the moment you can't offically use your own STBs

When you take the service, you have take STB along

Just one Query:
I know its technically possible to view IPTV on a PC without a TV & STB. as its just Stream of IP data packets just like regular internet. Afterall STB is a computer with embedded Linux, which does task of decoding

I want to know Does airtel plan to implement it?
any unofficial way to view this, like using VLC player?

IPTV data is kind of encapsulated while being transmitted from the root server. One needs to have a registered STB to connect to the IPTV server, because there are certain alteration induced in the firmware of the STB which signals the server and the server starts transmitting to the STB. This authentication has to be completed, only then the transmission will commence.

Cool Techie is right...

And as per your query Gary unfortunately Airtel does not intend to give IPTV services directly on TV. However you may get it incase you have a TV tuner card, however it will work on TV mode only.

Sorry for the delayed reply... was too busy Field Studting for IPTV :P

These alterations are deliberately induced into the Data packet, so People may not use the feed for any other purpose than indented.

However, I am pretty confident that Viewing IPTV on PC directly is possible. just we need to figure out how. previously i had accessed view Movie on Demand channels directly on PC via VLC media player.
