Thread: Airtel DTH Problems

I was staying at my cousins, and they have Airtel DTH and I have to say its a DTH service which is is terrible. I watching Airtel DTH for a whole week and there were alot of problems which I noticed, which I compared to Tata Sky and it was a lot. Airtel gives a lot of disturbances and this happens when it is not even raining, in between when its working Airtel DTH stops working and goes blank. And on some channels there is no sound at times! Another thing although Airtel DTH gives MPEG 4 technology, Tata Sky is much clearer!

I was considering changing from Tata Sky, but I think if anyone is thinking of doing this then you need to watch TV from the other DTH providers and then make your decision!

i have cable tv,..
i have to give him just 120/- month for the agreement that when Entertainment Tax guys will come and ask consumers what he takes from us, i have to say 150/- ;-)

You claim that you are posting from Farce's house and are jobless. Then how come you pay your cable TV subscription?

I haven't exeperienced such problems.It's rocking for me.

I am not finding any issues with Airtel DTH ( in Bangalore ) . Its rocking here with Crystal clear audio & video. I donno why you are getting such problems. It can be because of the dish alignment might have changed or so. Their customer support is also super . Why cant yoy raise one concern before blaming the whole Airtel DTH ?

I have been thinking of taking up a connection. I had Tata sky in mind.
but i always thought that airtel and big Tv would be grt, because they are well settled in the market and would offer only good services. but from what i'm getting from all u guys, i think i'll just stick to my cable connection. not that many channels but ithink it will do when compared to the problems i might have to face when i go in for a dish connection.

I cannot say about Airtel. But BigTV people do face lot of hassles.

You are much safer with TataSky or DishTV.

I had cable connection from Trishul Cable Communications Mathikere, Bangalore from 2006. Right from the beginning the connection was not clear (grainy picture in many channels) and he used to say the Cable Wiring in the wall was not good/right type. As per his suggestion he connected seperate wire externally. Even then same unclear pictures, now he said my TV (20' Thoshiba TV) had tuning problems to get it repaired. I too wanted to buy a bigger TV so went ahead and bought 32" Sony LCD "V series" Bravia. Even then it was unclear cable TV. Now he started blaming the Amplifier in the opposite house. I got fed-up and instructed him to disconnect his cable connection and got it noted down in his money collection card (he never gave any bills and always said he will get it at every year end). And all this time for nearly 2+ years I had been paying Rs.200 per month. Then his owner spoke to me and said he will rectify it requested me to continue and not to pay if quality is not good. I tried for 3 months and since it was bad I instructed him to disconnect it in march/april 08. Then I went for connection with another cable guy whose quality is excellent and at same Rs. 200/month. Now my old cable guy has complained to his association and threatened my current cable guy to disconnect it and I am supposed to take only from Trishul as I belong to his area of cable coverage itseems.

Now the question is DON'T WE THE CONSUMERS HAVE RIGHT TO CHANGE THE CONNECTION IF WE ARE NOT HAPPY WITH SERVICE OF THE PROVIDER? WHO WILL GOVERN OR CONTROL THIS KIND OF HIGH HANDEDNESS? WILL THE GOVERNMENT/concerned AUTHORITY HELP US.

That's Absolutely true, Their are lot of problem in BIGTV with their hardware, I haven't used Airtel, but 1-2 friends of mine have airtel connection and they are also not happy with Airtel DTH due to some or the other problem. sometimes remote not working , like not responding and some time STB automatically restart.

Hey Bro i am using airtel DTH since past 3 months but i have no problems yet

Horrible service of airtel dth in pune. Even while activation. Cusotmer care centre is horrible. Please never buy airtel dth service at all. They take money in advance and then do not bother to even attend calls. Their dsa telstart electronics in pune is alo hopeless.

I too have great problems with the AIRTEL DTH service. my STB goes off very often and displays " security problem". but if you switch off the STB for 5 mnts and then switch On, it works well then. But again for 15- 20mnts only. Again same problem prevails. In a day it needs to be switched off anf switched on for more than 10-15 times. Customer Care is waste and they don't attend to any complaints. ANYONE has the same problem. ?

I donot have any issues with my Airtel DTH here in Bangalore.. Working perfectly , with big clarity and without any h/w issues.. I am very happy with my conn. and getting all the channels I want...

Please check the cable coming from the Antenna to set top box.

this problems came when there is lossing in the cable.
Check that sure you will get best results with Airtel DTH.

I am using AIRTEL and the service is really amazing for me.

I don't know about Airtel but Tata Sky is a nightmare too.. I stay in pune and daily face a lot of problems. Major problem is Customer Care Service doesnt care about customers. {My telephone bill increased by Rs300 which is more than my monthly Tata Sky DTH plan} Lol.. I am having a lot of problem with my STB. It restarts automatically every 10 to 15 minutes. Sound control doesnt work... and it also has a major signal receiving problem. Tata Sky is not as clear as Airtel or Videocon D2H. They offer MPG4 whereas Tata Sky doesnt. Many friends of mine had Tata Sky at their places that's why I also subscribed for the same. But my friends are also facing a lot of problems and switching to Videocon or Airtel. When Tata sky was launched they were distributing better STBs but now every STB has the same problems.

I will recommend Tata Sky only if you have a lot of "Black" money and a lot of time and patience to track customer service guys. Also, if you have kids who watch TV all the time, get Tata Sky.. they will lose their patience very soon and start studying..

i bought a new airtel digital tv on 04/01/2012 at my flat. since installation my stb remote is not working at all. sometimes it works but sometimes it dosen`t.

My installation engineer replaced the remote with a new one but the problem is still there. Airtel engineer called me & after doing some procedure on phone he finally told me that your set top box had to be replaced. i am waiting for the new set top box. let`s see weather they replace it or not.

I am not satisfied with the customer service. If there is a problem in the starting what will happen in the coming future.

I should go for TATA SKY. THE BEST DTH SERVICE IN INDIA.

I am using airtel for past 2 years. i didnt face any problem so far.. customer service is also good so far

When I took the connection they said the STB and the antenna belongs to them. Its one year now, my STB is taking up to 3 hours to start! When I called the customer care they said its a hardware problem(even before listening to the complaint) and the STB needs to be replaced. They are asking me to pay for the STB as the warranty period is over. When I asked about the ownership of the hardware, they simply said those belongs to the customers and its our responsibility to replace it!

When I googled about this problem I could see many posts, what Airtel does is replace your STB with an old repaired one, which may again fail within weeks, you need to repeat the process again and again(each time you need to pay for the STB and service charge on top of it).

I am suspecting this as a shortcut to generate revenue, the problem could be software/firmware related. Also Airtel can include some logic such as 'if the warranty period is over, do not start the STB', its not a complex job for their engineers! The only option left for the consumers is to contribute to Airtel's revenue or move out from the so called 'best dth service in India'!
