Smile GPRS Connectivity problems and Vehicle tracking System

Hello,

We are using GPRS (no voice or SMS capabilities on the SIM) on an unlimited GPRS prepaid SIM Card to track vehicles.

The data logged in the vehicle mount unit is pushed to our servers on GPRS.

We are facing this problem that when the unit moves to another state across the border into roaming the GPRS connectivity is lost and sometimes the GPRS connection is restored when it leaves roaming and sometimes it does not restore after entering home network.

We have retained sufficient balance for the roaming charges.

Also network selection command 'automatic' from 'manual /automatic' is also enabled in the firmware of the Vehicle mounted unit.

As I understand that an operator maintains more than one APN does it require that our vehicle mounted unit firmware change by itself to the designated APN when it goes to roaming and back when it moves out of roaming.

Looks like we don't face any problem with Post paid connection.

Commercials apart is the GPRS connectivity different for Post paid and Prepaid.

We want to isolate this problem to either network (GPRS Service provider) or to hardware ( vehicle mounted unit )

Any help or advice is very much appreciated

Thanking you,

Best Regards

Default

Try to choose a service provider which has wide presence in india like Bsnl or Airtel , so that the APN remains same during roaming. If you choose services of other telcos, u will not have a gprs available in all states (eg : if you choose vodafone ,you wont have gprs in J&K ,Assam )

Default Best GPRS plan for Vehicle tracking systems

Hi members,

I just recently purchased a Vehicle tracking system.
I wanted to know which is the best plan for GPRS sim card to be used in the Vehicle tracking system.

At present i am using Rs. 20/day Mobile office option of Airtel. But its seems too costly to me. Which are the other options i have?

Please let me know soon, otherwise my current GPRS rate would drive me below BPL. hehe.

Any help or advice is very much appreciated

Thanking you,

Waiting for reply.
