Talking Mobile service providers do maintain a log?

I have a small doubt.....the thing is i want to know whether the mobile phone operators maintain a log of all calls and all messages sent by all users of that operator....if so how long will they log the details.......and also will they record all the call conversations of all the users of a network....and is it a secure way to call people and speak about important things

Mobile service providers do maintain a log of all the calls & sms made by its users. But I am not sure whether they record the conversations or not. I think they shouldn't record the users calls.

Yo man!!! They have to maintain these logs, otherwise how will they do tracing etc??

and you know about things going out in today's world terror sama: etc..crimes

so logging of records helps them... all records(containing texts, calls, (both std, isd) they have to keep a trace and record them...

Logs are maintained for all subscribers - pre-paid or post-paid. This is required by law. They maintain the logs online for at least six months - could be a year also. After that the details are archived but maintained.

Post-paid subscribers can get details of all calls by paying a small (?) monthly fee - usually Rs. 50/-. This is known as "Itemized billing".

Call are not recorded per se. But the police can request call taping from time to time in case of suspected terrorist links.

Some mobile service providers provide the "Itemized billing" for free. It comes along with your monthly bill. I am using Vodafone post paid for past 1 year. I get the Itemized billing every month & its free of cost.

Only corporate plans include itemized billing for free. Rest pay.
