Hi abani, well let me explain a few things to you.
All internet speeds are always measured in BITS per second not BYTES per second as we see it on our computers. You should always pay attention to the UNIT used in the speed. If you see a advertisement saying 1mbps. that means 1 mega bits per second. a small b means bits and a capital B is bytes. If you are unsure always ASK, or else you will find out the hard way :X. Now when you get 1mpbs(notice the small b so bits) you have to divide that speed by 8 to get the real speed you will see on your computer. so a 45kbps will give a max speed of about 45/8 5-6 kBps on your computer.
Now about your low speed on your data card.
ALL the data cards you buy on the market run in 2 speed modes.
1. Is called the edge mode, or 1x its called on most datacards. This is basically your HIGH speed modem running in gprs mode.
2. Is called the broadband mode, in this mode the data card will run at full speed. here you will usually get UP TO 3.1mbps or what ever has been advertised. This will only be possible if the datacard gets 3g signal.
3. Is called the hybrid mode, this is a mix up of both of above the card will select the network with the best signal and start you up, in this mode you maybe be running in 3g mode or gprs mode. All data cards by default are configured to run in hybrid mode.
What can you do?
All data cards can be forced to run in a specific mode. I had a MTS data card a while back. I never used to run it in hybrid cause i didnt know if it was running in gprs or 3g mode. You can open the settings page for your modem. This is on the same page before you click on the connect button. In that page you can force the connection in to edge or broadband. In this page force your modem to run in broadband mode. This will cause the data card to search for a broadband signal and not just start up with a gprs signal.
Hope it helps
