Yup buddy ,
Even in Tamilnadu , they are charging 1 rupee for each sms after 100 sms sent. But recently , before 2 days they have changed the msg limit to 200 it seems .

I am from Kolkata and here they are charging 10 paise for all Airtel to others messaging which is included in the limited 100 messages itself..and along with that they are charging 1 Rupee each message after 100 messages gets over.. I thought there was a news that 200 messages will be free from the 3rd and NOT 100. If this continues, I will request the airtel users to shift to some other connections.. uselesslet them suffer.
TRAI had set the guidline that "more than 100 SMS texts per day" to be allowed. This was meant to deter pesky advertisement messages. Now the cap has been raised to "max 200 messages per day". However, the 100 or 200 messages were never free. SMS charges would be continued as per the cell phone plan.
TRAI never said that "give 100 (or 200) messages free and charge money after that".
So check your plan. If you are being charged contrary to your expectations, please raise a stink.
p/s. (Trivia) Do you know that in USA, we get charged for incoming messages too?

But in DOCOMO,tamilnadu they provide Free 200 SMs as per thier previous sms packs.. tat is for 26.. they provide 200 sms per day.. but in airtel.. they give only 75... wat a difference?? does airtel understand wat they are doing...??
Different operators have different plans. Docomo may be offering more messages but charging more for voice and vice versa for Airtel. Anyway, it is difficult to compare plans just like that.
And for heavens sake, please do not use SMS like language here. We have rules.
Now with number portability, one can always switch providers. But I heard that there are still problems here and pre-paid subscribers are not getting this facility (unofficially). No idea whether this is true or not.
