Default Is it still worth to buy an iPhone 4s?

The iPhone 4s has got some serious price cut in the recent times, and it's now available for only 12,500 INR for 8GB version on many online stores in India. Though I feel it's a great deal for iPhone users, but does it still packs a punch? I mean there are already some high end phones in the market which are available for a ridiculously low price tag. Would you consider buying iPhone 4s in the present times?

I'm probably the wrong person to answer this bad I'm not an Apple fan at all, as I'm sure people on here know by now, and there's been the same amount of price cuts on an android device such as the HTC ONE M8 model for example, and its 2 years younger.

I shall try and be impartial though, and if you do want an Apple device, I wouldn't go any further back now than an iPhone5. The iPhone4s is still a more than capable device (as far as iPhones go) but as far as being able to get the latest updates from Apple, I'm not sure if they are still supporting the 4s, and if they are your not going to get that support for much longer with the iPhone7 already on the horizon.

The phone might look like a good deal now, but 6 months down the line you'll be stuck with an outraged device I'd imagine, so it may be better to pay a little extra and look at anything from a 5 upwards instead.

I think the price of almost all models are falling like anything. Why don't you check Flipkart or similar shopping sites that offer great deals now. I bet you can find better deals with the same price. If I were you I would not buy an outdated Apple as Apple 6 is already out. Though it is costly now, I am sure they will be forced to cut it down once new model from Samsung hit the market.

So, my advice would be to have a look at shopping sites which offer great deals in India right now and find if any other better alternative is there.

With the speed at which manufacturers are bringing new models out, as soon as you buy the latest top of the range device, within 3-6 months it's already outdated and selling for a lot less than you originally paid and that can be frustrating.

I see a lot of people taking advantage of this. They wait for sometime and buy it at a much lower cost. Even the newest ones will not be having any basic differences in addition to a set of new features and style statements. Almost everything remain the same. So, there is no harm in buying a model when it is cheap. But going for a very old model is not wise as you may be losing a lot of new developments.

Basically I am not a fan of changing handsets every day. I use a Samsung Galaxy phone which is about to reach its 2nd anniversary. If we change it as and when the new models appear in the market, we need to change it almost every day.

I have a contract phone that gets renewed whey two years so I don't normally keep hold of any handsets for longer than that anyway, but even if I didn't I think two years is about the longest I'd wait between upgrading.

Some manufacturers are bringing out upgrades twice a year now, so even if you do upgrade on the second year, your already 4 generations of handset behind.

Even I feel iPhone 4s is an age old device now. There are already many devices in the market that are much more capable than iPhone 4s, and also available at a very reasonable price. Anyways, I'm getting a 6 months used Nexus 5 at a very cheap price and I'm going to go with it, no more iPhone 4s now.

So you'll be another one that's making the switch over from iOS to android as well then @waqsi

Obviously I think some devices do stand up to the test more but iPhones aren't one of them, and that's mainly due to Apple themselves and their upgrade policy.

@pwarbi I'm already an Android user and I'm quite happy with it. I seriously don't like the Apple's policy for their smartphones, I mean downloading songs or videos in an iPhone is a pain. And moreover, I don't like the iPhone's connectivity factor because of so much of encryption. I really enjoy using Android and I haven't faced any malware attack or privacy issue so far.

I've also used Android for a number of years as well now, and I've also not encountered any problems reagarding the security aspect of the platform either so would definitely recommend it.

While I'm sure there are risks, as what's been documented, I think they may be exaggerated a little.

My brother has been trying to get me to buy an iPhone forever. I think I'll stick with my Android. It's even cheaper than all of the iPhones. The apps to me is cheaper too.

I think if you went from an android to iOS, you'd 've one of the few people that do these days.

By all means try them out, but at the end of the day I'd make sure you kept your receipt because after a few datmts, my bet is that you'd be taking it back.

The Apple iPhone 4s is quite a decent phone, with enough features for what most users would need. It's also reasonably priced these days, which makes it worth picking up. However, it's not as powerful as many other newer phones in the market. But those will also cost a bit more, that's something else to consider. There are tons of quality apps on the App Store, you'll never run out of stuff to download either.

While it might be a decent phone, there's no escaping the fact that it'd also old technology now, and for the price that Apple devices are going for, you could probably pick up a relatively new android device that will perform a lot better.

Yes, that's exactly what made me go with a Nexus and I'm quite happy with my choice. The iPhone 4s now seems to be out dated considering the present scenario, where many new comer brands and well established have much more to offer within the same price tag. I don't feel it's worth to go with an iPhone 4s now.

It is definitely worth picking up an iPhone 4s even though it is considerably late. You still get all the features and most importantly, you get the Apple brand. The service is excellent and the phone is not that bad when you compare it with all the other phones today. It is still worth in my opinion.

@p4lse I'm sorry to say but I don't just run after the brands and seriously, I never had an intention to buy an Apple product to show off. When you compare iPhone 4s with the current devices, you're surely going to see how dates it has become. I wouldn't recommend anybody to go with iPhone 4s in the present time.
    Anyways, to each his own.

Yes, why not? If it's that cheaper it's really worth if it's brand new, even more worth! It's still very good, iPhones are made to last and iPhone 4 is still a very good smartphone for the price it costs and you have a device from one of the best brands in the industry!

Just go for it and then tell us about your experience :P

I have already used an iPhone 4 in the past, and I dont think there would be any big difference between 4 and 4s. I really feel iPhone 4 is an outdated device considering the present snartphone conpetition. Sorry, but I wont be buying one as I feel its too late!

p4lse, Do You have an Apple Iphone 4S? Because Performance is the "the heel of Achilles" of Iphone 4S. If you have any point at which you must have trouble buying the iPhone 4S, it is the unit's performance. Several model owners have reported a drop in productivity after upgrading to iOS 9, with slowdowns and even crashes.

In my opinion yes. It is a nice phone. Keep in mind Apple phones are more secure than the ones running Android.

On the security issue is unquestionable that the iPhone is much better than Android. But analyzing the Iphone 4S environmental , you will suffer a lot with performance. Well, I respect your opinion.

The iPhone 4s is an out dated device, and for the money you can buy a lot better in my opinion.

As for the security aspect, a new model android device will be more secure than a 3 or 4 year old iPhone so that issue becomes invalid when considering to purchase one or not.

In Brazil, they continue to sell iPhone 4S because unfortunately in my country was created the culture that those who have an Iphone has power. There are people here who spend money they can not spend to buy an Iphone. So Sad..

I would recommend saving up a little extra, to buy at least an iPhone 5 or 5s, as the iPhone 4s is very outdated right now, and won't last for very long. Whereas, the iPhone 5 is a much better device than the 4s, for a little bit extra, and it will definitely last longer than the 4s. You can buy a second hand one for very cheap here in the UK, compared to other devices. And the bigger display, and A6 chip make it a device that is a lot better.

Also, shouldn't this be posted in the IOS section not android? :P

I still think the 5 is not a good idea. Its rear window scratch easily. I think more interesting for the latest versions of IOS at least the iPhone 5s.

True, however there is a significant price difference between the iPhone 5 & 5s model, mainly due to the 5s having the touch ID scanner (which can also easily be damaged.)

Indeed, there is a significant difference in price. Importantly, the iPhone 5 is already discontinued.

Well if you want a quality durable phone , You should buy one. Yes it is an obsolete model but for a low price you have something that is much more better than a cheap Android. You can get a high quality phone for a low price. The only reason who would prefer an Iphone 6 is to have a fashion accessory.

You consider an important thing! Durability! Iphone has a excellent quality. If a person is not worried in received the most recent updates, so Iphone 4S can be a interesting option.

The difference between Iphone4 and Iphone 6 is comparable between the difference between a Barbie doll and a Barbie doll with a hat. A little girl can still enjoy her Barbie doll eventhough it doesn't have a hat. I will only buy an Iphone 6 when it's price dropped because I am not obsessed with fashion accessories. Most latest models of Iphones are over priced fashion accessories for people who want to shove their social status.

True, however the iPhone 4s has a glass back, which cracks very easily. This isn't an issue though if you don't mind the appearance of the phone, as a cracked back has no impact on the display and performance. Although, the iPhone 5 has an aluminium back, which is a lot more durable, and in crackable, but it is prone to scratches, as aluminum is a relatively soft metal.

I think iPhone 5s is a lot more better option to go with, as its available at a much cheaper price across many stores. However, I completely agree with the 'Durability' factor that iPhones come with. iPhones have comparitively more life than other phones.

Today, Iphone 5S is the best option when we consider performance. Iphone 5 or old are already dated, they will suffer with new versions of IOS, but we consider durability Iphone 4 or high are interesting.

Would this iPhone still benefit dmfrom the Apple updates? That's another question to look at when buying this phone also, and with Apple now seemingly updating their phones twice a year, I'm not sure it still does.

Old apple devices are incompatible with new versions of IOS. I think IOS 8 was the last update for the iPhone 4s, therefore it's not worth buying i t anymore. The iPhone 5s will still receive a couple of updates I think, however it will soon be discontinued I think.
