Whats the use of USB in the SET TOPBOX

No idea about USB. Perhaps it is there to be used as a source for downloaded pictures, movies, etc.

STB software is upgraded over the air (OTA) via satellite. Sometimes the satellites sends the OTA upgrade and you STB can recieve the upgrade and update the software.

CC executive told me that the usb port is used for internet purpose.it can act it as a lan card modem.
This service will launch soon . . .may be after one year.
