BIG TV crosses 1- million subscriber mark

Reliance Communications' DTH services subsidiary, Big TV, on Monday claimed it has reached the one-million subscriber mark within 90 days of its launch, capturing a 15 per cent market share.

“Our customer-centric approach coupled with advanced technology, superior product and service with a wide distribution and installation service network spanning the country has helped BIG TV cross the million milestone in such a short span of time,” Reli ance Communications President, Mr Mahesh Prasad said.

Asked if the current economic slowdown would force the company go-slow on expansion, he replied in the negative and said, “Right from day one, we have set ourselves realistic and aggressive targets, that is to achieve 40 per cent of the DTH market by 201 1. We are on track.”

These are tough times for the industry and we are looking at how to get the best of our people and existing resources, he added.

He said that the depreciating rupee is putting pressure on margins for import of set top boxes and the company is looking at all options, including price rise and packaging to tide over the situation.

“We continue to monitor the situation on a week-to-week, month-to-month basis and we would do what is necessary,” Mr Prasad said.

Launched in August this year, BIG TV is available at over one lakh retail outlets across 6,500 towns along with over 2,000 exclusive Reliance branded stores.\

Bigtv added 1 million subs in 90 days where as dishtv added 6 lakh subscriebr in less then 45 days in this competitive scenario.

So big tv is planning to increase the price of their packages. not a good news to big tv subscribers if this really happens.

I don't really care for these statistics ... but good to know.

Thats quit impressive, but i didn't think the number would reach this much in short time as there were many complaints and problems, but looks like it worked out for the best for Big TV!

ya that is surprising that inspite of increasing no of. recent issues with them they did manage a large no.. good for them.. lets see if they can retain them ..
