Unhappy Is BIG TV having problems during rains ?

After a small sprinkle which lasted for less than 5 mins, BIG TV was showing some messages that "Signal not available due to rains". Another time, another message which says "Signal not available due to rain at broadcasting station". What is this "broadcasting station" ?

Is this a specific problem with BIG TV since I've seen Airtel advertising their DTH of error-free performance during the rains ?

If this problem persists with BIG TV then that would cause headache to all at Kerala & Assam which is having a good & long monsoon season !

Anyone suffered from this same problem ?

Such DTH services often get disrupted for shorter durations during the rains. I wonder why Airtel is advertising so. Even a bit of cloudy atmosphere is known to affect the reception.

Right said I have seen BIG Tv service distrupted for 20 seconds or such during cludy conditions but that has happenned for 2-3 times in last 4 months and during rains it was working fine, like 2-3 days back in Delhi heavy winds were blowing with rains but my BIG TV connection was working fine. So I think you should get your dish checked if its loose or not properly aligned.

Cheap advertising tactics. All of them use the same technology and yet how can they (Airtel) differ from the others?

Only an Airtel DTH user can confirm if his DTH gets disrupted during rain or not.
There are several Airtel DTH users here. can anybody pl. help?

most DTH services have this problem. its not that only when it rains - the signal would stop - the entire situation is a bit funny/myterious.

the signal may stop even when the sky is cloudy.... it may stop on light drizzles ... it may continue normal telecast even in thundering showers ... but ya ... rain causes troubles. ..

Even sun outages have known to cause disruptions in DTH services.

In India Only 2 option available for Big Tv DTH service customer.

    1. You resident in Rainy area don't buy Big TV.

    2. Big TV DTH good service available only in Rajstan or Vidharbh (Maharashtra) because no raining this place.

NEVER Faced any problem in quality during rains etc.

but i will not still recommend it, because there of poor service support. I can't describe, they take you the way BSNL telephone users were taken by it's employees during monopoly days.

Yes.there is a problem with BIG TV during rain. While using sun direct ,even duing very thick rains ,it tried to work with some pixelation issues.but big just shows a blue screen WTF!

sun direct dish was setup using a digital signal strength meter in our premise.but big tv guy did some shortcut to fit the new dish-it may not be properly tuned.

i think you will find a problem with all dth services when it rains, as the train disrupts the signal

there's nothing mysterious about it, the wavelength at which these dth services operate, are susceptible to being scattered by water droplets, even when they are not raining down (what we call, clouds ).
so i don't think this inherent issue can be fixed by these operators, and we'll just have to get used to it.

since they all work with geostationary satellites (stationed at the equator), the dish makes quite an angle. now the height, density, position of clouds at that point where the dish is actually receiving the signal from (which is quite away from you), is very different from what you might be in ur locality, hence when even it rains sometimes, the signal may not stop.

so in all, there are a number of variables (these are only a few) which might decide the amount of moisture between the dish and the satellite's path of communication.

I don't think it is the problem with your dish. If you can see the warning on the screen regarding rain, then it was raining heavy (Probably) @ the earth station.

Yes Sir. I am also experiencing the problems during rains. I do not know about the other DTH services. If it is not, Big TV should do something to avoid this.
