    Default Cheapest DTH service

Many people have gone from the popular and first dth services like Dish TV to Big TV, saying its much cheaper.

I know that that picture is quality is better because of the reviews written by members on the forum, but how cheap is it really than other dth services.

And have Big TV got all the major channels now?

big tv is not a cheap DTH
Dish TV is the cheapest DTH
all sports channels in dish tv cost only 45+ tax ( 5 channels) but in big tv it is 75+ tax ( 4 channels) No Zee Sports
Dish does nt have Neo Channels but in big tv you can't also subscribe to Neo package because it has 6 months lockin period and it is 40 + tax pm so total cost would be 240 + tax

just for watching 3 test match one would have to shell out 240+ tax for watching Neo Channels in big tv and ODI's are telecasted on DD Doorshan Itself so Neo package in big tv is totally crap
Airtel have Neo Channels for 30 + tax without 6 months lockin period
and tata sky have that for 40 + tax also without the lockin period

Big are cheap only in choosing their STB's

It is like this with Neo TV. They paid an insane amount for telecast rights of cricket matches in India. BCCI fleeced them really.

Neo TV probably forgot or overlooked or discounted that:
    • All short version matches (50-50 and 20-20), played in India, will have to be shown on DD National as per special law in India (this law is draconian but that is again another story). So no exclusive rights there.
    • One day and T-20's are more popular than test matches with the public (I am not one of them but that is another story).
    • All matches played abroad are available on ESPN-Star or Ten-Sports.
    • Neo will thus have exclusivity on 5-day matches only and that too those played in India.
Because of all the above, they are unable to find advertisers. Having paid a ludicrous amount, they are forced to charge high. DishTV is not agreeing to pay a high cost - but I do think that they (DishTV) should negotiate and have Neo channels as an a-lar-carte package.

But vijay above mentioned, these a-la-carte packages have a minimum contract period. For example, Airtel Digital is offering SET-MAX as a a-la-carte package named as "IPL package" but the minimum hire period is 6 months. In case of SET-MAX, this is still OK because when there is no cricket, there will be at least movies. But Neo is another matter.

Well Big tv is not the cheapest DTH.
currently DISHTV is the best and most economical DTH in India. Its dishtv which provides sports channels in base pack like in South silver at only 99 + tax per month with 135 channels including sports channels.

Also if you take ala-carte packs then dishtv provide 5 sports channels (espn, star sports, star cricket, ten sports, Zee sports)at Rs.45+ tax where bigtv charges almost Rs.75+ for the same and don't have Zee sports.

Same is the case with other ala-carte packs and base packs. with dishtv you get all channels @ below Rs.350 which is not the case with bigtv.

    Question

    cable is still cheaper.

for homes that have 2 or more TV sets, DTH sucks b@ll$. you can share the cable line, but cant share DTH.

a shared DTH will show same channels on both TVs, while you can view diff channels thru shared cable line.

Well that is a point when it come to sharing you can share one cable line! But you have to admit clarity for DTH services is better!

I only mentioned that Big TV is cheaper than Dish TV because some family friends have got it, and they only changed because it was cheaper! But then again they just got the basic pack which just includes Punjabi channels, and Zee TV, Star and all!
