    Default Big TV adding HD

Reliance Big TV is going to its next step and this is being done by Big TV DTH giving its customer HD (high definition).

Reliance Big TV DTH is going into talks with major and popular media houses such as BBC, CNN and also Comedy Central for their non film content, which according to them will make a big affect to their number of customers.

Another media house which Big TV DTH are in talks with are Fox Star Group which will introduce niche channels which will include channels like Fox Crime, Fox Adventure, Fox Music and many other different kinds of channels, and that too only on Big TV.

MSM is another channel which may be brought in after the talks have been done are Discovery HD Channel, Discovery Science, and Discovery Turbo.

These plans are hopefully to be set out to their many DTH customer by the next financial year.

@ Preeti_20. Do you have any idea about the upcoming BIG TV's HD STB in terms of connectivity? Sun HD has already been launched in the market last year. So according to you if BIG TV launches their HD DTH service by July this year we can hope that it would start some sort of competition between them and hence the price would come down at a reasonable range, i.e., HD STB between 5,000 to 7,500 RS and a decent monthly HD package from 500 to 1,500 RS (wishful thoughts). Please do update us here if you come to know any HD related developments or rumours about other vendors as well.

The LAN port that you see is for firmware upgrades and live internet. Very similar to the LAN port that BD players have.

At present there are not many HD broadcasters there are only few channels which are in HD versions Discovery, National Geographic, Colors which is provided by sundirect in HD is upscaled and not true HD.
BigTv infotainment contains Nat Geo and Fox history based on this as it provides Nat Geo which has HD broadcast is the only HD channel. However, sources say it is holding talks of including foreign channels including FOX, CBS, ESPN for HD content.

1080i is full HD. 1080p is also full HD but better looking because of no flickering.

If its only one channel, then at the moment its not really worth getting the new STB then! Unless you have at least 5 HD channels!

More services will be added later.

It does not matter whether it is 1 channel or 10. The thing to consider will be which channels. Currently, the channels in HD are mainly in the infotainment category, viz., NatGeo, Discovery, etc. If that is not of your interest, then there is no point of HD right now.

My suggestion is: don't switch to HD right now; wait for more channels to be introduced and prices to slash.

I agree, If we all waited for some more time it would also put pressure on DTH service providers to slash the STB prices and hopefully subscription as well.

I wonder if Tata sky would provide a discount if we returned the old boxes and bought HD stb because it would be such a waste to throw them away just like that.

Just4kix wont reply to you here (check his signature) but I sometimes make exceptions So here is a little argument for you :

If the transmission is 1080i it can be viewed as 1080p as well and another thing is that its just theoritically different but in practice you wont be able to make out the difference unless you are an alien with response times less then 1/30th of a second

Well they have refurbished their website but there is just a tab for HD which seems quite confusing to new users to HD to differentiate between the base box and HD.

Whether it is just a feature for which we ( consumers) have to pay more?

To view HD content in your TV you need a HD ready TV( LCD/LED),

And also a HD set top box. then other details will be given to you by the company, like do you need an optical output or HDMI cable etc.
