This message is posted to share my views on BIG TV based on my usage.

ADVANTAGES

1. Channels & Pricing -
Big TV has included all malayalam channels with exceptions of Jeevan TV,SS Entertainment & Kairali People. Regional coverage is very good compared with other dth operators.

I have subscribed to "Diamond Pack" costing INR 3000 for one year. With the exception of Neo Sports, Neo Cricket & Zee Premiere all other english , hindi & sports pay channels are included in the package. There is an option to select one regional pack in addition to malayalam pack & I choose tamil pack (contains all sun channels).

Comparing the packs offered by other dth operators only Airtel DTH has the similar offering in the INR 3000 range. For all other operators , the package will be in the range of INR 3400 - 3500. PRICE WISE BIG TV IS THE BEST.

2. Remote & STB
The STB is very small in size compared to other operator's . The remote is very handy & sensitive.


DISADVANTAGES

Rainy Season Signal Loss
This is the biggest disadvantage of BIG TV. With slight rain the signal is lost. I have called customer care several times & the only reply is to wait till the rain is over. I have been using TATA Sky for the last three years & the signal loss was only for one minute during the heaviest rains & otherwise there was no problem. But with BIG TV its a common problem & with the climate in kerala where year round rain is common , ALWAYS EXPECT SERVICE DISRUPTION DUE TO RAIN .

Installation
BIG TV is short of service personnel & my installation was done on sixth day after payment was made. There is no solution for this from customer care ....just wait for 48 hours & if not installed they will register another request & ask to wait for another 48 hours.

BIGTV logo
The reliance big tv logo is very big & opaque & on many occasions it is an irritant especially if watching news & business channels where the logo obstructs the ticker info.

Scroll button & Channel change button on remote
In BIG TV remote if we press the "up" button the info on previous channel is displayed, while "CH+" changes to next channel. Normally for all operators the "up" & "CH+" buttons indicate info/change of next channel.

Favourite List
Favourite list can be created with no restrictions on number of channels added but the channels cannot be custom sorted & always the order allotted by BIG TV has to be followed.

Program Guide
Normal practice is to provide program info of all channels for at least next one week. But in BIG TV the program guide mostly displays info for current day only & info for succeeding days not available on majority of occasions.

TO CONCLUDE, BIG TV IS THE CHEAPEST AMONG DTH OPERATORS CONSIDERING THE CHANNELS OFFERED.
IT IS MUCH BELOW THE QUALITY EXPECTATIONS WITH TOTAL SERVICE DISRUPTION DURING RAIN.
