Big tv comes with some more packs for users who can pay extra...

BIG TV is also coming with three Pack:-

I dont have much details about channel lists but whenever i get one i will mention here..

If I were to compare with my Dish Maxi package, I would be paying in comparison:

Starter Pack 3: 93 channels @ Rs. 175/-
Regional Pack: 3 channels @ Rs. 30/-
Top Ups:
... News Plus: 3 channels @ Rs. 25/-
... Hindi Movie Plus: 3 channels @ Rs. 25/-
... Sports-1 Plus: 2 channels @ Rs. 25/-
... Elite Plus: 3 channels @ Rs. 25/-
... English Movie Plus: 3 channels @ Rs. 25/-
... Kids Plus: 3 channels @ Rs. 25/-
... Uni Plus: 3 channels @ Rs. 25/-

A grand total of Rs. 380/- and I will still have some channels missing such as - MGM, Turner Classic Movies.

And I pay Rs. 300 for Dish Maxi + Rs. 150 for second TV. Big TV will charge Rs. 190/- for second TV.

I was plaaning to buy BIGTV, but little disappointed with their launch offers. Maxx pack is d thing where u'll get everything, but 12 month free MAXX pack comes for 4990 something is not cup of every1's tea.
So I recharged my dishtv with 300 ITZ card, now I can enjoy even more no of channels compared to BIGTV, d only disappointing thing is BINDAAS TV, Hope dish will include it in future.

yes these package are not too attractive but still we are getting Mpeg-4 picture quality and cd quality sound in almost same rates that dist tv is providing and this is really a good value for our money..finally we can enjoy better picture quality in same price

As far as I know mpeg4 doesnt make any difference to the picture quality.. it just uses less bandwidth so more channels can be broadcasted.

I dont think that the mpeg4 makes any difference either, i mean how clear can you get DVD quality?

MPEG 4 makes a huge difference dear.. No pixalation in picture hence best picture quality. even it saves 30% of bandwidth so no need to change STB if more channels will be added in future..

mpeg 4 gives better quality & compression than the mpeg2
big TV uses advanced STB's as it has component output which gives the best quality (ofcourse next best to HDMI)than the composite in TATA Sky & Dish TV(u need to have component input in ur TV set), USB port (heard that we can play the contents frm Pendrive later on ) & in STB model 2 they have given Dolby SPDIF output to amplifier.

I'm frm mumbai & I compared the quality & packages of all DTH providers before going for BIG TV.
Even the quality of Big TV in composite is better than TATA
Eventually the package costing turns out to be the same .I guess dish is cheaper here than Tata & BIg is slightly on higher side

After 1 yr/initial offer. in BIG TV u can opt. for package(starter 1 + free regional pack) as low as 100 rs. even the Starter 3 packs covers most of the channels @ 175 while in tata minimum(family) pack is 200 & dish welcome is rs.262

Frm last week Tata sky has launched new offering i.e. In rs. 3990 u will get the STB & 400 days of super saver pack (Here if u add up the cost of Life style gold pack @40per mnth & 400 p.a + sports gold @30 p.m. & 300 p.a + sports platinum @ 40 p.m & 400 p.a + ten sports available on a la carte basis @ 15 p.m & 150 p.a )
So the total of TATA Sky comes around rs. 5240 for almost a year (BIG TV Max offer @ 4990 + free monthly subcription pack of movies - hindi for 3 mnths)

this is a lauch phaze so service is not upto mark & the Reliance world & Customer Service guys lack the product knowledge.
The movies channel is not working as per the schedule on all BIG CINEMA movie channels(for eg. on channel 120 GOAL was from 15th Aug to 28th aug & 29th to 14th sept. JODHAA AKBAR as per their Schedule but still as on 3rd sept they r showing GOAL )

I purchased the Kit i.e. STB & Max offer frm Reliance world on 31st aug & called the CC for Installation .
The installation guys came to my residence on 1st sept. at 2 pm aa per mentioned by the CC guy.

First thing which i know is MPEG 4 does not create any effect on audio and video quality, its same with both mpeg2 and mpeg4. mpeg 4 is better compression technique and can used for putting up more channels on one transponder then mpeg2 and hence it can be benefial for broadcaster to put more number of channels on their platform.

Just to correct you Minimum package of dishtv is feedom pack @ Rs.100 with more then 100 channels.

there is slight diff in pic quality mpeg 2 & 4 (after all both r compression formats but mpeg 4 compress it in diff. way to retain better quality while giving compression upto 25 - 30 % less.
I googled around & found out

& I tested all DTH before going for Big TV in three different shops

All were connected to composite & single TV but still Big TV slightly scored over TATA
Dish was no way near to them (they have good packages though)

component gives best picture quality (Tata & dish STB's do not have Component out)

Any sources? or can some one second this? This sounds very interesting... I might actually chuck out my tata sky and get a big tv instead if the picture quality is noticably better..

MPEG4 will not give you better quality - I have done the tests myself at home using miniDV source, VirtualDub, Mainconcept MPEG Encoder and TMPGEnc. In fact, MPEG4 was more choppy in high speed camera pan and a sequence that showed cars zooming across I-880 in San Francisco. Of course, I do not have hardware encoders but I did use the H.264 compression method for MPEG4.

As far as BigTV coming out better, it is the component output that is making you see the difference. But, it hardly matters to the end client what technology is used - as long as (s)he gets better quality that is good enough. However note that not all TVs have Component-In. Only the high-end 29" CRTs (a few models only), LCDs and Plasma's have component in.

I am not doubting that BigTV is providing better quality but I am objecting to MPEG2 vs. MPEG4 comparison.

Even i don't have bigtv and not used it and not saying any thing on their quality, but as the best of my knowledge both these compression technologies will have same results on picture and audio quality.

mpeg 2 & mpeg 4 quality is same but properly encoded mpeg 4 can yield better results....

my observation :
1.Big TV coming out slightly better than TS in pic quality but audio is same
2.TS has good STB software & Big TV s/f is sluggish it also hangs sometime(I've read that Reliance guys keep on updating & that the reason it hangs during that time)
3.package costing almost same

Hi Readers,

I just wanted to share my worst experience with "Reliance BIG TV" DTH Service.
First of all I request everybody not to purchase "Reliance BIG TV" connection.

Well, to start with I have taken BIG TV "Set Top Box" on 31/Aug/2008 "Invoice No. 0101038073" from one of the Main Web World, Mehdipatnam Branch (Hyderabad).
I think initially as a company while selling the product, web world person has to inform me about all the future requirements from my side, but they have not given any kind of information.
Actually, one Work Order ID is required in order to have installation for BIG TV, that we can get after calling customer care of BIG TV.
But because they have not informed me that I hvae to call Customre care, it was delayed for 2 days, and by chance I called c.care for some other reason on 02/Sep/2008 and got my work order ID.
Even after having my work order ID, I have not recieved any call from the Installation team for Installation, I raised complaint for the same also for so many times, but none of any use.

Almost everyday for more than 1.5 hours I was calling c.care for any kind of solution and spoke to around more than 12 c.care representatives, to name some of them are :- Sheetal, Usha, Bhaven, Ganesh, Priya and so on and escalated the same issue to some of the senior members as well they are:- Rahul and Bhuvneshwari.
Everybody was saying the same thing repeatedly "we are sorry for the inconvinience caused, it will be done asap......etc.....".

Till today, i.e. 12/SEP/2008 more than 12 days after purcahse of STB, I am still waiting for the installation.....??? and still have no update....

One more intersting thing, I called c.care to ask "is it possible to return the STB because of bad services", the representative straight forward answered "just go to the web world and return back the STB, they will refund the money", they people are not even concerned about the problem and reason why I asked to return it back.

Finally, I request everybody again PLZ PLZ PLZ never go for "Reliance BIG TV", only name is BIG, everything else is small.

Big is having installation prob only in south part

I totally agree with the above person that the CC & sales guys in rel world lack the product knowledge & the cc is really pathetic but tata & dish were also no exception to this.
This is the launch phaze so we should atlest give them 5-6 mnths time

big tv has definately better video quality than TS & dish(if ur tv is having component input then its completely worth)
its quality is gr8 even during rains(my signal strength 100% & quality 97%)

visit the SOD (save on dish)forum & check comments of all those who had earlier criticised the CC & instalation delays , now these guys r also appreaciating the quality ...check out .......

Yes Correct.....Mpeg4 for is different? The picture quality will b good but when it comes sound or audio mpeg4 is not at all good......For clear sound MPEG2 is good....believe me!!!!!! u can check it by ur own MPEG 2 and 4 files or Big Tv sound and Other Mpeg2 sound
