Adwords publishers on the rise in India

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

Having an India specific site used to be a big no no until a couple of years ago when there were hardly any adwords publishers and there were not many ads available for Indian publishers so breaking even for those sites which didn’t sell anything was virtually impossible. Things are changing now and you can see a lot more advertisements from India as compared to a couple of years back which is all good. There has also been a sudden rise in number of websites in India and there are so many webmasters from India its just unbelievable. I hope e commerce picks up in India and Indian webmasters get a piece of the dot com cake as well.

Wimax on the rise in India

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

Wimax connections in India are expected to touch the 21 million mark by 2014 as per forecasts and most operators are now expected their large scale wimax operations in 2008. Reliance wimax is already operational at a few places in India including Bangalore and Pune and is planning a large scale deployment in the next year. India looks all set to become one of the largest wimax markets in the world although Pakistan has left India far behind for the time being but by next year India will probably have the largest number of wimax connections in the world. I am all excited about wireless broadband being available in Delhi by next year and with that the freedom of being anywhere in Delhi and being able to do my work from my car even while traveling as it used to be a pain with gprs which takes ages to load a page.

Adsense messed up

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

In the last few days the channel data of adsense is not getting updated for some reason and there is no statement from Google either so I asked a few friends and found that they have the same problem as well. Just 30-40  channels are registering page impressions and clicks and interestingly the total revenue remains unaffected and the total page impressions seem to be normal as well its just the channel data. At first I thought its just my account but now a lot of webmasters have confirmed that its the same story with them as well. This problem occurred after adsense had their schedule downtime on Saturday and since then stats look messed up.. some bug probably will have to wait and see.

Sify broadband at its best

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

You must have heard me saying bad things about sify broadband all the time but I have something nice to say about sify broadband today and that is they have completed a month this time without me having to call customer service about any problem. Not that there were no problems its just that they were too little for me to pick up the phone and talk to sify’s less then competent staff. I only had a few disconnections and the connection was back up and running within a few seconds so it didn’t bother me that much. I hope sify wimax is launched as soon as possible so we don’t have to rely upon these cable operators any more.

I hope sify keeps up with this and gives even better service in future. To discuss more about sify please visit sify broadband forum.

My laptop has passed away

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

The packard bell laptop which I was going all ga ga about a couple of days ago is dead now. The hard drive made a huge cranking noise and since then it wont start I even tried to reformat it but it just wont happen as the hard drive is gone for ever. I do have a backup of the hard drive but now it will be a painto find a new hard drive for this laptop as I am sure packard bell dont have any workshops here in India and I might have to just let this laptop go for good. So atlast laptop shopping again :) might buy some cheap crap this time coz the previus one realistically cost me £500 per year as it was almost £1500 when I bought it 3 years ago.

Reliance data card

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Reliance data card : There are a lot of wireless internet options available in India now for instance airtel data card and hutch data cards which has now changed to vodafone data card and tata indicom and reliance are also offering wireless internet at very affordable rates but when compared to UK prices are still very high in India as one can get a wireless broadband connection using 3g technology at £10 per month from 3g and Vodafone and speeds are faster then 256kbps with the added advantage o being able to go anywhere within the UK.

I have got this reliance wireless data card and to be honest I don’t like it that much when I compare the speed with what I get in UK as some pages take ages to open leave alone establishing an ftp connection with my servers…

I normally have to do a lot of ftp work as I have a number of clients for whom I take care of their servers located in Germany and USA which obviously require me to have a good internet connection all the time although I have a team of guys working 24/7 but there are still some problems which they cannot take care of themselves and have to refer those problems to me. I am now looking at buying a teaming software and have at least three wireless connections one another laptop and use a LAN network on another laptop so that I would get access to the best network at all times but then this comes with its own set of problems for example if I am doing some work on a server I will be logged out every time my ip address changes.. I guess will wait for 3g :) for the time being reliance data card is doing the trick.

Just for info: Mahape has the most number of reliance data card subscribers.

Packard bell laptop

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

I have a packard bell easy note laptop whch I bought in the end of 2003 and has been working very well. I have used this Packard bell laptop more then you could ever imagine.. On an average I must have used it atleast 5-6 hours a day and at times it has been running for day at a go so I guess the £1400 something I spent on it back then was well worth it and I am typing this post on my laptop sitting in the back of my new toyota innova doing 130km/hr on the gt road going towards Jallandhar from New delhi and connected to the WWW with this reliance data card. The only problem this laptop has ever had is a few days ago when the hard drive made a cracking noise so I backed up the whole hard drive and have bought a spare one just in case this one gives up on me so I will just have to open up two screws and put this new hard drive in and my laptop will be as good as new again.

I am actually looking to sell this laptop now but dont know how much to ask for it but if you are keen on owning this technology marvel which has travelled across the globe atleast twice and have been mostly used in UK, USA and Canada and doesnt have any scratches and doesnt have any dust inside either given the fact that its never been used in India before.

I will most probbably buy some cheap laptop this time so it wont be so painful to get rid of it every year and I will be able to buy a new one every year :)

Give me a shout if you are looking to buy a used laptop I have one for sale..

India broadband forum rankings

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

India broadband forum has been online for a while now and has seen some excelent results on serps in the last few months which include ranking very well for all the isp names in India and even beating some of the official sites in the process. The site has been loosing ground recently and there has been a little decline in traffic in the last few weeks and the main reason is that I havent had enough time to give to this forum lately hence this decline. I am planning to spend some time on this forum and make sure that the traffic graph starts moving north wards again.

I have had some exceent tips from some of the big names in the industry regarding seo and I will try implementing them on this forum and see how it goes and just hope that the google gods shower some love on this forum soon :)

I will be posting some cool seo tips on this blog in the near future so if you are intersted keep checking.
