ADSL
Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008In today’s world, no business is well established without the connection of the Internet. Even almost every household has the Internet connection, as it opens up so many opportunities. At present there are many ways of getting connected to the outer world through the Internet. These include a local area network connection, a modem, a cable modem or a digital subscriber line (DSL). However, these days, people prefer to go for the DSL option because it comes with a lot of advantages.
First of all, it is easy to get a DSL connection, as it makes use of the same cables of your phone line. You do not need any extra wires to stay connected to the outer world. Due to this kind of setup, you can also make calls through your phone simultaneously while working on the web. This means, through one setup you can use both your phone and the Internet connection as well. Another important advantage of using the DSL is that it gives you a better speed. Instead of conventional 56 Kbps, you get a speed of 1.5 Mbps with DSL.
The installation of the DSL is very easy because there is nothing much required except your phone line. Moreover, the modem is provided by the DSL service provider only. So, this means you do not even have to pay for the modem. On the other hand, there are some disadvantages too. The speed of the DSL depends a lot on the distance between the PC and the provider’s central office. Secondly, the data that you receive is faster than what you send.
However, with the increase in the demand of the Internet, many other high-tech services are coming to the upfront. For instance, T1 lines are taking over the DSL connection. It gives better speed, which helps in improving any business. So, depending upon your needs, you can decide whether to go for the DSL connection or not.
