Laptops : One of the easiest ways to get around and still carry on with important work using a computer is a laptop, which has come a long way with it improvements and popularity. Since the time that laptops have been invented they have provided one of the best services for people. Allowing them to do work where ever they may be, whether they are in their car, on any kind of public transport, or practically being anywhere away from home. In today’s date people can also access the internet using wireless internet access using data cards, and there is a lot more that one can do with a laptop these days.
The laptops have come in use for many people and especially business men, as they are now able to bring their presentation on their laptops to present to their clients, they can communicate with clients using the internet access they have, and do what ever kind of business work being away form the office. Apart from business men it is also something useful for students, who can carry out their projects and do assignments from their laptop without having to stay at collages or school to complete their work. It is also easy for them to move around with their laptop as being a student means moving homes every year and commuting regularly.
There are many types of laptops which you can choose from, and it all depends on what you require the laptop for. Some people purely purchase a laptop for doing their work which means typing and therefore do not require any specific features. For those who use the internet require their laptops to have a large hard disk, fast processing and speed for an overall superb performance of their internet access from their laptop. The other category is for gamers who have to have the top rated laptop as they play games which are loaded with graphics. But no general case it is personal preference to what you require to have in your laptop and of what size and speed.

Toshiba, one of the top laptop manufacturer, has introduced a series of laptops, A300, P300, and U400, which recognizes the face and voice of the owners to let them login to their Windows. These three new satellite laptops from Toshiba will be built-in with their own face-recognition software which will be functioning through webcam and microphone to let the owner of the laptop to login.

This face-recognition software functions just like a normal password for Windows and will allow only those matching all features of face of the owner which was prefixed in them to login. Toshiba says that it cannot be fooled with replacing or using the pictures or masks of the owner.

This laptop comes with Intel Pentium Core2 Duo or AMD Athlon64. And the regular LCD monitor and other features to that of a regular laptop. This laptop also comes with a Harman Kardon speakers and soft touch buttons.

During the process of face-recognition, you don’t actually have to touch the keyboard at all. It also captures the picture of someone who tries to access the laptop without your knowledge, so that you can identify if someone who is known to you is indeed trying to access your laptop without your knowledge.

The price of these laptops start at around 600 Pounds. But the full sales these laptops will start only at the second quarter in UK soon.

My laptop has passed away

Filed under: General, Laptops — Parminder @ 12:29 am

The packard bell laptop which I was going all ga ga about a couple of days ago is dead now. The hard drive made a huge cranking noise and since then it wont start I even tried to reformat it but it just wont happen as the hard drive is gone for ever. I do have a backup of the hard drive but now it will be a painto find a new hard drive for this laptop as I am sure packard bell dont have any workshops here in India and I might have to just let this laptop go for good. So atlast laptop shopping again :) might buy some cheap crap this time coz the previus one realistically cost me £500 per year as it was almost £1500 when I bought it 3 years ago.

Reliance data card

Filed under: Broadband, Laptops, Reliance broadband, Wireless — Tags: , , — Parminder @ 2:55 am

Reliance data card : There are a lot of wireless internet options available in India now for instance airtel data card and hutch data cards which has now changed to vodafone data card and tata indicom and reliance are also offering wireless internet at very affordable rates but when compared to UK prices are still very high in India as one can get a wireless broadband connection using 3g technology at £10 per month from 3g and Vodafone and speeds are faster then 256kbps with the added advantage o being able to go anywhere within the UK.

I have got this reliance wireless data card and to be honest I don’t like it that much when I compare the speed with what I get in UK as some pages take ages to open leave alone establishing an ftp connection with my servers…

I normally have to do a lot of ftp work as I have a number of clients for whom I take care of their servers located in Germany and USA which obviously require me to have a good internet connection all the time although I have a team of guys working 24/7 but there are still some problems which they cannot take care of themselves and have to refer those problems to me. I am now looking at buying a teaming software and have at least three wireless connections one another laptop and use a LAN network on another laptop so that I would get access to the best network at all times but then this comes with its own set of problems for example if I am doing some work on a server I will be logged out every time my ip address changes.. I guess will wait for 3g :) for the time being reliance data card is doing the trick.

Just for info: Mahape has the most number of reliance data card subscribers.

Packard bell laptop

Filed under: General, Laptops, Wireless — Tags: — Parminder @ 2:44 am

I have a packard bell easy note laptop whch I bought in the end of 2003 and has been working very well. I have used this Packard bell laptop more then you could ever imagine.. On an average I must have used it atleast 5-6 hours a day and at times it has been running for day at a go so I guess the £1400 something I spent on it back then was well worth it and I am typing this post on my laptop sitting in the back of my new toyota innova doing 130km/hr on the gt road going towards Jallandhar from New delhi and connected to the WWW with this reliance data card. The only problem this laptop has ever had is a few days ago when the hard drive made a cracking noise so I backed up the whole hard drive and have bought a spare one just in case this one gives up on me so I will just have to open up two screws and put this new hard drive in and my laptop will be as good as new again.

I am actually looking to sell this laptop now but dont know how much to ask for it but if you are keen on owning this technology marvel which has travelled across the globe atleast twice and have been mostly used in UK, USA and Canada and doesnt have any scratches and doesnt have any dust inside either given the fact that its never been used in India before.

I will most probbably buy some cheap laptop this time so it wont be so painful to get rid of it every year and I will be able to buy a new one every year :)

Give me a shout if you are looking to buy a used laptop I have one for sale..
