Apple has agreed to acquire P.A.Semi Inc. for approximately $278 million as per according to the reports published by Forbes.
P.A.Semi was founded by a veteran chip designer Dan Dobberpuhl and presently has more than 150 employees who have worked for other major companies such as Intel Corp, AMD Inc. and Sun Microsystems Inc.
The company processors are based on IBM Power microprocessor architecture which were used in 1990’s under the brand AIM (Apple-IBM-Motorola) which made PowerPC line of CPU’s. For a long time Apple relied on this line of processors until it completely abandoned them in 2006.
This acquisition will enable Apple engineers to have much better control of what they make as processor plays a important role in every product and also this will enable them to keep the underdevelopment products a secret.
As this news came to light, many different opinion (much more of rumors) are coming out as some market analysts believe that Apple took this step to make its own processors which will enable them to enter the low-cost laptops market which is booming in developing countries such as China and India and some analysts believe that this acquisition can be the first step to next generation iPods and iPhones.
Apple has not announced anything as why it acquired P.A.Semi but it is sure that this acquisition will enable company to further enhance their present line of products as Apple had been known for their unique creativity.
