Tata Sky is one of the leading DTH satellite television providers working in India. It uses a MPEG-2 digital compression technology for presenting a clear picture. Also it uses the INSAT 4A at 83.0°E for the transmissions of signals.
The company is the result of a joint venture agreement between India’s Tata Group and STAR TV. The Tata group holds an 80% stake in the company whereas the STAR TV network owns a 20% stake in the company.
The Tata Sky Company uses the sky brand which has British Sky Broadcasting as its real owner. The brand was incorporated in the year 2004. However its public launch happened in the year 2006.
In the last quarter of the present Year, 2008 the company also announced its new service, the Tata sky Plus. This new service makes it possible to record almost 45 hours of STB which is fully MPEG-4 compatible. It has a remote with complete playback controls to playback the recorded footage.
The Tata Sky DTH service currently offers an approximate of 140 channels. Some of them are DD National, Star Plus, Star One, NDTV Imagine, Star Utsav, Sony, SAB, Sahara One, Zee TV, Bindass, Zoom TV, Colors, 9X, ETV Rajasthan, ETV UP, ETV BIHAR, Aastha, Sanskar, Star World.
Also included are, BBC Entertainment, BBC Entertainment, AXN, Discovery Travel & Living, Fashion TV, Zee Café, Zee Trendz, Zone Reality, NDTV Good Times, STAR Gold, SET MAX, Filmy, Zee Cinema, UTV movies.
