The speed and constant connection offered by GPRS

The GPRS service offers unparalleled speed it allows the users to send a larger amount of data over the various mobile networks at a speed which is usually three to four times greater than the speed provided by the traditional GSM systems.

Theoretically speaking, the GPRS service can provide the maximum speed of up to 171.2 kilobits per second (kbps) if the users use all the available eight timeslots at the same time.

This speed is approximately three to four times faster than the data transmission speed that is possible over any of the present fixed telecommunications networks and ten times faster than the Circuit Switched Data services available at present on the available GSM networks.

It allows the information to transmit more quickly, efficiently and effortlessly across the various mobile networks. The GPRS is actually a relatively less costly mobile data service as compared to the SMS and the Circuit Switched Data.

The GPRS service also provides earlier impossible constant internet connection. Actually the GPRS service facilitates an instant connection that can be used to send or receive information in an immediate way. The service is subject to radio coverage, there is no need for any dial-up or wired connection.

The GPRS users are at times referred to as being “always connected”. One of the advantages provided by GPRS is Immediacy as compared to the Circuit Switched Data. This increased immediacy is a very important feature for the various time critical applications like a remote credit card authorization where it is not possible to keep the customer waiting for some extra time.

All things aid and done, one thing can be safely said, that the speed and constant connection provided through GPRS is much better than anything available before the advent of GPRS.
