But I suggest that 3 G is better because there is no line of sight issue as there is in 802.16 d however if you will talk about 4 g or 802.16e mobile wimax then it will eradicate this LOS issue however there is a plenty of time still required to grow and implement 4 G as 3 G implementation is in process.
Secondly there is a coverage issue and services are different with respect to areas. Also Omnidirectional anntenna devices that collect signals on reflection are not so impressive or gain is not so high that every one desire to use it.You have to be so close to the base station if you have the above mentioned device.Kindly share your comments and experiences .This is my experience as Iam working in one of pioneer Wimax service provider in Pakistan.

WIMAX is better then 3G Technology. It is useful for Voice & Data at high speed.
Installation of Wimax Technology is very Simple.

S Wimax is faster, when once set it will become cheaper .Net access will be fast.wimax is only for data.
3G is also useful as lots of VAS-Value Added Service going to rock every one.

In my opinion, both the technologies are different and aim to provide different services so comparing these two can be a bit difficult but not impossible. Yes its right that speed and coverage of WiMax are better but the non-availability,cost and ease/difficulty of use can become a problem.Second, there is still not clarity by the DoT if voice would be allowed in WiMax or not. Most probably, voice would not be allowed (voice in WiMax is actually VoIP) as it would pose a serious revenue loss to the 3G players. So WiMax would be mainly focusing on data whereas 3G would focus both on voice and data. Which of these technology will win is yet to be seen but once launched they will surely change the way we communicate.

I think in the war between the two different technologies Wimax and 3G,ultimately it should be Wimax which should emerge as a clear winner.3 G is a cellular technology intented to provide high speed data like video streaming.movies, online games etc to the users on their mobile phones where as Wimax is purely a broadband technology which aims to provide internet access to the users on their computers.Wimax should emerge as a winner in long term because of 2 reasons:
1) High data speeds max of 70 Mb/s where as 3G only provides a max of 14.4 Mbp/s
2) Wimax can also be used as a Backhaul Technology avoiding the need of traditional T1/E1 copper lines.
3)Wimax complements Wifi technology for home users
4) Not as many towers needed for Wimax as needed for 3G or the upgrade cost from 2G to 3G.
