Internet is a revolution that has brought the world within one's reach. It has captured knowledge like never before encompassing every bit of thought in public domain.

It's utility is felt more and more in day-to-day life. Today's youth is identified in the virtual space. For many this is increasingly throwing open opportunities of livelihood.

The drive is to spread the influence. Slowly this can become as ubiquitous as the water in the taps or electricity from the wire. With potential of deeply reaching the rural world this can be pitched as the biggest pot of gold.

Affordable user devices and high speed services are the call of the hour. Broadband, 3G, WiMAX are the means to this goal. With VAS and innovative online applications, we can visualize a new world in the making.

The Indian Rebellion of 1857 was a period of uprising in the northern and central India against British rule in 1857–58. The rebellion was the result...

The Indian Rebellion of 1857 was a period of uprising in the northern and central India against British rule in 1857–58. The rebellion was the result of decades of ethnic and cultural differences between Indian soldiers and their British officers. The indifference of the British towards Indian rulers like the Mughals and ex-Peshwas and the annexation of Oudh were political factors triggering dissent amongst Indians. Dalhousie’s policy of annexation, the doctrine of lapse or escheat, and the projected removal of the descendants of the Great Mughal from their ancestral palace to the Qutb, near Delhi also angered some people. The specific reason that triggered the rebellion was the rumoured use of cow and pig fat in 557 calibre Pattern 1853 Enfield (P/53) rifle cartridges. Soldiers had to break the cartridges with their teeth before loading them into their rifles. So if there was cow and pig fat, it would be offensive to Hindu and Muslim soldiers, respectively. In February 1857, sepoys (Indian soldiers in the British army) refused to use their new cartridges. The British claimed to have replaced the cartridges with new ones and tried to make sepoys make their own grease from beeswax and vegetable oils, but the rumour persisted.

In March 1857, Mangal Pandey, a soldier of the 34th Native Infantry in Barrackpore, attacked his British sergeant and wounded an adjutant. General Hearsay, who said Pandey was in some kind of "religious frenzy," ordered a jemadar to arrest him but the jemadar refused. Mangal Pandey was hanged on 7 April along with the jemadar. The whole regiment was dismissed as a collective punishment. On 10 May, when the 11th and 20th Cavalry assembled, they broke rank and turned on their commanding officers. They then liberated the 3rd Regiment, and on 11 May the sepoys reached Delhi and were joined by other Indians. The Red Fort, the residence of the last Mughal emperor Bahadur, was attacked and captured by the sepoys. They demanded that he reclaim his throne. He was reluctant at first, but eventually agreed to the demands and became the leader of the rebellion.

Soon, the revolt spread throughout northern India. Revolts broke out in places like Meerut, Jhansi, Kanpur, Lucknow etc. The British were slow to respond, but eventually responded with brute force. British moved regiments from the Crimean War and diverted European regiments headed for China to India. The British fought the main army of the rebels near Delhi in Badl-ke-Serai and drove them back to Delhi before laying siege on the city. The siege of Delhi lasted roughly from 1 July to 31 August. After a week of street fighting, the British retook the city. The last significant battle was fought in Gwalior on 20 June 1858. It was during this battle that [Rani Lakshmi Bai] was killed. Sporadic fighting continued until 1859 but most of the rebels were subdued. Some notable leaders were Maulavi Ahmedullah Shah, an advisor of the ex-King of Oudh; Nana Sahib; his nephew Rao Sahib and his retainers, Tantia Tope and Azimullah Khan; the Rani of Jhansi; Kunwar Singh; the Rajput chief of Jagadishpur in Bihar; Firuz Saha, a relative of the Mughal Emperor, Bahadur Shah and Pran Sukh Yadav who along with Rao Tula Ram of Rewari fought with the British at Nasibpur, Haryana.

The day when India woke up to freedom back in 1947 was a day of great celebration. A country got rid of her foreign yoke and became a sovereign nation, she celebrated her sovereignty on this day - the triumph of numerous martyred souls. It was a day of fulfillment, it was the day of a new beginning, a birth of a nation. On the stroke of midnight, a country came into life again as the british handed over the governance of India to the Indian leaders. The long and difficult struggle had borne fruit at last, though the happiness was marred by the fact that the country was divided into India and Pakistan and the violent communal riots had left the countries permanently scarred.

That was the price that India paid for her dearly bought freedom. The british government declared the country independent and left for their own shores. On the 15th of August, 1947, India became completely independent. It was on this historic date that Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime Minister of India, unfurled the Indian tricolor on the ramparts the magnificent Red Fort, symbolically marking the end of the british colonial rule.

The Republic of India is a country that occupies a greater part of Indian subcontinent. It borders Pakistan and Afghanistan in the northwest, the People's Republic of China, Nepal, and Bhutan in the north, and Bangladesh and Myanmar in the east. India's coastline stretches for over seven thousand kilometres. Its neighbours in the Indian Ocean are the island nations of the Maldives in the southwest, Sri Lanka in the south, and Indonesia in the southeast. India is the second most populous country in the world, with a population of over one billion and is the seventh largest country by geographical area. It is a constitutional republic consisting of twenty eight states and seven union territories. The word India derives from the Old Persian cognate for the Sanskrit word Sindhu, the Indus river. The Constitution of India also recognizes Bhārat listen (help·info) as an official name with equal status.

A centre of important historic trade routes, India is the home to some of the most ancient civilisations. India is the birthplace to four major world religions: Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism and Hinduism. It also has the third largest Muslim population in the world after Indonesia and Pakistan. Hinduism is the major religion followed in India . India was a former colony of the British Empire under the British Raj before gaining independence on 15 August 1947. The country has witnessed significant economic and military growth after the liberalization of the Indian economy. India is also well-known for upholding the concept of peace, as was demonstrated by its peaceful method of freedom struggle.

Augut 15 is the indipendence day of India.
India was one of the colonies of briton. foriners came to India at 1600 for their trade. and they started their trade with manythings. slowly they started to conqure India. In the time of their arrival.
India's Independence Day is celebrated on August 15 to commemorate its independence from British rule and its birth as a sovereign nation on that day in 1947. The day is a national holiday in India. All over the country, flag-hoisting ceremonies are conducted by the local administration in attendance. The main event takes place in New Delhi, where the Prime Minister hoists the National Flag at the Red Fort and delivers a nationally televised speech from its ramparts. In his speech, he highlights the achievements of his government during the past year, raises important issues and gives a call for further development. The Prime Minister also pays his tribute to leaders of the freedom struggle. A colourful pageant showcasing India’s cultural diversity, symbolic depictions of the country’s advances in science and technology, and a joint display of India’s military capabilities by the armed forces are an essential part of the Independence Day celebrations.

The term Indian independence movement incorporates various national and regional campaigns, agitations and efforts of both Nonviolent and Militant philosophy. The term encompasses a wide spectrum of political organizations, philosophies, and movements which had the common aim of ending the British British Colonial Authority as well as other colonial administrations in South Asia. The initial resistance to the movement can be traced back to the very beginnings of Colonial Expansion in Karnataka by the Portuguese in the 16th century and by the British East India Company in Bengal, in the middle and late 1700s. The first organised militant movement was in Bengal, but it later took political stage in the form of a mainstream movement in the then newly formed Indian National Congress, with prominent moderate leaders seeking only their basic rights to appear for civil services examinations and more rights, economic in nature, for the people of the soil.

They used moderate methods of prayer, petition and protest (3p's). The beginning of the early 1900s saw a more radical approach towards political independence proposed by leaders such as the Lal Bal Pal and Sri Aurobindo. Militant nationalism also emerged in the first decades, culminating in the failed Indo-German Pact and Ghadar Conspiracy during the World War I.

The end of the freedom struggle saw the Congress adopt the policies of nonviolence led by Mohandas Gandhi. Other leaders, such as Subhash Chandra Bose (called Netaji), later came to adopt a military approach to the movement. Yet there were others like Swami Sahajanand Saraswati who along with political freedom wanted economic freedom of peasants and toiling masses of the country. The World War II period saw the peak of the movements like INA movement led by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose from East Asia and Quit India movement.

India remained a Dominion of The Crown until 26 January 1950, when it adopted its Constitution to proclaim itself a Republic. Pakistan proclaimed itself a Republic in 1956 but faced a number of internal power struggles that has seen suspensions of democracy. In 1971, the Pakistani Civil War culminating in the 1971 War saw the splintering-off of East Pakistan into the nation of Bangladesh.

The independence movement also served as a major catalyst for similar movements in other parts of the world, leading to the eventual disintegration and dismantling of the British Empire and its replacement with the Commonwealth of Nations. Gandhi's philosophy of nonviolent resistance inspired the American Civil Rights Movement (1955-1968) led by Martin Luther King, Jr., the quest for democracy in Myanmar led by Aung San Suu Kyi and the African National Congress's struggle against apartheid in South Africa led by Nelson Mandela. However not all these leaders adhered to Gandhi's strict principle of nonviolence and nonresistance.

1. Nothing is permanent in this world, and even our Troubles....!

2. I like walking in the rains, because nobody can see my tears....!!

3. IMPORTANT :- The most wasted day in life, is the day, in which we have not laughed ....!!
[COLOR="Blue"][FONT="Verdana"][SIZE="4"]Reminds me of a recent comment/quote by the famous Foreign Affairs Columnist of New York Times - Thomas.L.Friedman. He said:

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were Told to eat our vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, think of the starving children in India And finish the dinner.'

And now I tell my children:
'Finish your homework. Think of the children in India
Who would make you starve, if you don't.'?"

[COLOR="Navy"][FONT="Verdana"][SIZE="4"]
I studied in a convent coed school ( Boy and Girls together ), and had an intelligent School principal, he was very good at sports , and above all a very strict too, he bought many a changes in school, including colorful school uniforms, small hair cut, no jewelry or watches to be worn, no calculators usage in classes, no radio’s ( Cricket Was a Big Craze at my time ) taught us dance, introduce sex education too., and the best part which we still have in us.. that’s to respect and regard females.

We had an school peon called John, and there was a few rich brats ( the Brats of Secondary School – code name BOSS ) who use to pamper him a lot. well ! Obvious to get some or the other favors out, or some important work to be done, and also to update us of anything fishy happening in school.. I was the most stubborn rich brat of my school, use to wear watch, carry along a small Sony Radio cum walkman, and worn sporty shoes, never the black leather once… Oh! It was my Dad’s regular hefty donations to the school that gave me an liberty to walk cloud nine… there were plus and minus points too with this liberty, which at this stage I won’t be able to spell, but do regret now…

It was one fine afternoon, and we the “BOSS” were enjoying recess ( Break of half hour ) period enjoying Vada Pav ( Bombay Buggers ), that john came looking for us, it almost looked like he was hunting for rabbits… he saw us and gave that KESTO MUKERJEE SMILE …Aaaheeya..ha ha.., and said “ Aare Boss Log “ sab ki waat kaal ( Tomorrow ) lagne wali hai..Patli Gaali Se Nikal Jaaoo..I got up, caught him by his shoulders and asked him what the bloody hell was going on…on this he opened his palm and showed us Rs. 200/- Rupees, and replied …” Principal Saab has given me Rs. 200/- and asked me to get 50-60 Rakhi’s from the near by shop …BOSS I feel like he is going to have RAKSHA BHANDAN CELEBRATION tomorrow…and will ask each one of you brat to tie rakhi’s to the cute girls of this school…Come on do something, look I have done my job now you guys be on your toes.. I am going, take care “ Phew !

Now this was a Titanic Jolt to all of us.. but God gifted we were with 20 GB Hard Disk up in our head…so we didn’t have to scan much of our brains..ha ha.. Immediately we shoved in our fingers in our mouth ..so that we could vomit – puke out all the vada pav eaten and WOHLAA it came out…we loosened our ties, opened a few buttons of shirt.. sprinkled / splashed water on the face..and gave best of our performance a LA SHARUK KHAN style. In no time the word spread like fire, that few of the school children were fallen sick, our girl friends too joined the band wagon and were caressing us, blowing their cute white handkerchief on our face, it was in no time that a couple of teachers came running towards us..helped us with water..made us to sit comfortably, and called the School doctor, further gave phone calls to our residence too….by this time the principal too came to know about it and he too was in action on the field… we saw him firing the canteen manager, and asked him to stop distributing snacks..and to close the canteen to avert further un-wanted incidents

My Mom was the first to reach school, my driver came running towards me and said “ RAJBABA, Aare Keeya Ho Gaya “, chalo utho utho ( Get Up ).. I have your school bag with me, Madam ( My Mom ) is talking to the principal, we shall leave for home immediately, we shall visit the family Doctor on the way.. In a short time there were fleet of cars in the school campus all parents getting down, running hastily towards their kin, some abusing too. I got up in La style of Amitabh, the one hit with scores of bullets in SHOLAY. In no time I and a couple of my friends were on the back seat of my car, could see my Mom so worried… and we the BOSS happy go lucky to be out of the school campus ..Wroooooom.. On the way home, I was shown to the family doctor, he gave me a couple of medicine, syrup and asked to take rest for a couple of days, and told Mom not to worry, it was just an infection from the food eaten, nothing much to worry…OH !! Back home I jumped on my cozy bed, asked my maid servant to make some light snacks, Phew ! I could hear my Mom talking to my Dad on the phone and narrating the school incident… Let me tell you this was something which did not strike me.. for I was my dad’s PET..”LADLA BETA “.. My mom came to the room with the cordless phone and asked me to talk to Dad.. Phew !! He enquired what happened, and how was I feeling. He sounded quite tensed that made me feel quite bad.. and I almost had moist eyes.. late night he came home with lots of fruits and can juices… Well !! the next day was Raksha Bhandan.. and we the Brat BOSS were at home.. lying cool on the bed, and watching television and late evening attending our girl friends phone calls… ha ha.. two days later when we joined school, we could see a couple of RED FACES …ha ha ha… for those were the guys to whom the cute girls had tied RAKHI’s… they were almost fuming at us.. and we were just giggling inside that we were left quite safe

Now when I recollect the incident I have happy and sad tones to it.. Happy that we played a big trick.. but the saddest part and the most crudest fact of my life... I DON”T HAVE TRUE SISTERS.. for we are three brothers in the family and have no sister.. Oh ! but I am grateful to Internet, for it has given me three cute sisters.. KUSHI, RUNALI and her elder sister… and Brothers like Shilpi, Panna, Sajal, Dheeraj & Rahool and further the best of best friends like Samidha, Alisha, Surbhi, Fatima, Preeya, Chote Galib, Ankur, Sonu, Yesmeen and many a more… now tell me what more do I need in life.. T H E - E N D

Oh ! I forgot to warn you " You might need Metacin, Anacin, Crosin, or Paracitimol or may be RAJRATAN TEL/OIL, JANDU BALM, B-TEX MALAM, AMUL MACHO... after reading the above SAGA...for you might be having spliting headace by now' :)'..ha ha ha ha..' '
