The Indian Rebellion of 1857 was a period of uprising in the northern and central India against British rule in 1857–58. The rebellion was the result of decades of ethnic and cultural differences between Indian soldiers and their British officers. The indifference of the British towards Indian rulers like the Mughals and ex-Peshwas and the annexation of Oudh were political factors triggering dissent amongst Indians. Dalhousie’s policy of annexation, the doctrine of lapse or escheat, and the projected removal of the descendants of the Great Mughal from their ancestral palace to the Qutb, near Delhi also angered some people. The specific reason that triggered the rebellion was the rumoured use of cow and pig fat in 557 calibre Pattern 1853 Enfield (P/53) rifle cartridges. Soldiers had to break the cartridges with their teeth before loading them into their rifles. So if there was cow and pig fat, it would be offensive to Hindu and Muslim soldiers, respectively. In February 1857, sepoys (Indian soldiers in the British army) refused to use their new cartridges. The British claimed to have replaced the cartridges with new ones and tried to make sepoys make their own grease from beeswax and vegetable oils, but the rumour persisted.

In March 1857, Mangal Pandey, a soldier of the 34th Native Infantry in Barrackpore, attacked his British sergeant and wounded an adjutant. General Hearsay, who said Pandey was in some kind of "religious frenzy," ordered a jemadar to arrest him but the jemadar refused. Mangal Pandey was hanged on 7 April along with the jemadar. The whole regiment was dismissed as a collective punishment. On 10 May, when the 11th and 20th Cavalry assembled, they broke rank and turned on their commanding officers. They then liberated the 3rd Regiment, and on 11 May the sepoys reached Delhi and were joined by other Indians. The Red Fort, the residence of the last Mughal emperor Bahadur, was attacked and captured by the sepoys. They demanded that he reclaim his throne. He was reluctant at first, but eventually agreed to the demands and became the leader of the rebellion.

Soon, the revolt spread throughout northern India. Revolts broke out in places like Meerut, Jhansi, Kanpur, Lucknow etc. The British were slow to respond, but eventually responded with brute force. British moved regiments from the Crimean War and diverted European regiments headed for China to India. The British fought the main army of the rebels near Delhi in Badl-ke-Serai and drove them back to Delhi before laying siege on the city. The siege of Delhi lasted roughly from 1 July to 31 August. After a week of street fighting, the British retook the city. The last significant battle was fought in Gwalior on 20 June 1858. It was during this battle that [Rani Lakshmi Bai] was killed. Sporadic fighting continued until 1859 but most of the rebels were subdued. Some notable leaders were Maulavi Ahmedullah Shah, an advisor of the ex-King of Oudh; Nana Sahib; his nephew Rao Sahib and his retainers, Tantia Tope and Azimullah Khan; the Rani of Jhansi; Kunwar Singh; the Rajput chief of Jagadishpur in Bihar; Firuz Saha, a relative of the Mughal Emperor, Bahadur Shah and Pran Sukh Yadav who along with Rao Tula Ram of Rewari fought with the British at Nasibpur, Haryana.

The day when India woke up to freedom back in 1947 was a day of great celebration. A country got rid of her foreign yoke and became a sovereign nation, she celebrated her sovereignty on this day - the triumph of numerous martyred souls. It was a day of fulfillment, it was the day of a new beginning, a birth of a nation. On the stroke of midnight, a country came into life again as the british handed over the governance of India to the Indian leaders. The long and difficult struggle had borne fruit at last, though the happiness was marred by the fact that the country was divided into India and Pakistan and the violent communal riots had left the countries permanently scarred.

That was the price that India paid for her dearly bought freedom. The british government declared the country independent and left for their own shores. On the 15th of August, 1947, India became completely independent. It was on this historic date that Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime Minister of India, unfurled the Indian tricolor on the ramparts the magnificent Red Fort, symbolically marking the end of the british colonial rule.

The Republic of India is a country that occupies a greater part of Indian subcontinent. It borders Pakistan and Afghanistan in the northwest, the People's Republic of China, Nepal, and Bhutan in the north, and Bangladesh and Myanmar in the east. India's coastline stretches for over seven thousand kilometres. Its neighbours in the Indian Ocean are the island nations of the Maldives in the southwest, Sri Lanka in the south, and Indonesia in the southeast. India is the second most populous country in the world, with a population of over one billion and is the seventh largest country by geographical area. It is a constitutional republic consisting of twenty eight states and seven union territories. The word India derives from the Old Persian cognate for the Sanskrit word Sindhu, the Indus river. The Constitution of India also recognizes Bhārat listen (help·info) as an official name with equal status.

A centre of important historic trade routes, India is the home to some of the most ancient civilisations. India is the birthplace to four major world religions: Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism and Hinduism. It also has the third largest Muslim population in the world after Indonesia and Pakistan. Hinduism is the major religion followed in India . India was a former colony of the British Empire under the British Raj before gaining independence on 15 August 1947. The country has witnessed significant economic and military growth after the liberalization of the Indian economy. India is also well-known for upholding the concept of peace, as was demonstrated by its peaceful method of freedom struggle.

Augut 15 is the indipendence day of India.
India was one of the colonies of briton. foriners came to India at 1600 for their trade. and they started their trade with manythings. slowly they started to conqure India. In the time of their arrival.
India's Independence Day is celebrated on August 15 to commemorate its independence from British rule and its birth as a sovereign nation on that day in 1947. The day is a national holiday in India. All over the country, flag-hoisting ceremonies are conducted by the local administration in attendance. The main event takes place in New Delhi, where the Prime Minister hoists the National Flag at the Red Fort and delivers a nationally televised speech from its ramparts. In his speech, he highlights the achievements of his government during the past year, raises important issues and gives a call for further development. The Prime Minister also pays his tribute to leaders of the freedom struggle. A colourful pageant showcasing India’s cultural diversity, symbolic depictions of the country’s advances in science and technology, and a joint display of India’s military capabilities by the armed forces are an essential part of the Independence Day celebrations.

The term Indian independence movement incorporates various national and regional campaigns, agitations and efforts of both Nonviolent and Militant philosophy. The term encompasses a wide spectrum of political organizations, philosophies, and movements which had the common aim of ending the British British Colonial Authority as well as other colonial administrations in South Asia. The initial resistance to the movement can be traced back to the very beginnings of Colonial Expansion in Karnataka by the Portuguese in the 16th century and by the British East India Company in Bengal, in the middle and late 1700s. The first organised militant movement was in Bengal, but it later took political stage in the form of a mainstream movement in the then newly formed Indian National Congress, with prominent moderate leaders seeking only their basic rights to appear for civil services examinations and more rights, economic in nature, for the people of the soil.

They used moderate methods of prayer, petition and protest (3p's). The beginning of the early 1900s saw a more radical approach towards political independence proposed by leaders such as the Lal Bal Pal and Sri Aurobindo. Militant nationalism also emerged in the first decades, culminating in the failed Indo-German Pact and Ghadar Conspiracy during the World War I.

The end of the freedom struggle saw the Congress adopt the policies of nonviolence led by Mohandas Gandhi. Other leaders, such as Subhash Chandra Bose (called Netaji), later came to adopt a military approach to the movement. Yet there were others like Swami Sahajanand Saraswati who along with political freedom wanted economic freedom of peasants and toiling masses of the country. The World War II period saw the peak of the movements like INA movement led by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose from East Asia and Quit India movement.

India remained a Dominion of The Crown until 26 January 1950, when it adopted its Constitution to proclaim itself a Republic. Pakistan proclaimed itself a Republic in 1956 but faced a number of internal power struggles that has seen suspensions of democracy. In 1971, the Pakistani Civil War culminating in the 1971 War saw the splintering-off of East Pakistan into the nation of Bangladesh.

The independence movement also served as a major catalyst for similar movements in other parts of the world, leading to the eventual disintegration and dismantling of the British Empire and its replacement with the Commonwealth of Nations. Gandhi's philosophy of nonviolent resistance inspired the American Civil Rights Movement (1955-1968) led by Martin Luther King, Jr., the quest for democracy in Myanmar led by Aung San Suu Kyi and the African National Congress's struggle against apartheid in South Africa led by Nelson Mandela. However not all these leaders adhered to Gandhi's strict principle of nonviolence and nonresistance.

I studied in a convent coed school ( Boy and Girls together ), and had an intelligent School principal, he was very good at sports , and above all a very strict too, he bought many a changes in school, including colorful school uniforms, small hair cut, no jewelry or watches to be worn, no calculators usage in classes, no radio’s ( Cricket Was a Big Craze at my time ) taught us dance, introduce sex education too., and the best part which we still have in us.. that’s to respect and regard females.

We had an school peon called John, and there was a few rich brats ( the Brats of Secondary School – code name BOSS ) who use to pamper him a lot. well ! Obvious to get some or the other favors out, or some important work to be done, and also to update us of anything fishy happening in school.. I was the most stubborn rich brat of my school, use to wear watch, carry along a small Sony Radio cum walkman, and worn sporty shoes, never the black leather once… Oh! It was my Dad’s regular hefty donations to the school that gave me an liberty to walk cloud nine… there were plus and minus points too with this liberty, which at this stage I won’t be able to spell, but do regret now…

It was one fine afternoon, and we the “BOSS” were enjoying recess ( Break of half hour ) period enjoying Vada Pav ( Bombay Buggers ), that john came looking for us, it almost looked like he was hunting for rabbits… he saw us and gave that KESTO MUKERJEE SMILE …Aaaheeya..ha ha.., and said “ Aare Boss Log “ sab ki waat kaal ( Tomorrow ) lagne wali hai..Patli Gaali Se Nikal Jaaoo..I got up, caught him by his shoulders and asked him what the bloody hell was going on…on this he opened his palm and showed us Rs. 200/- Rupees, and replied …” Principal Saab has given me Rs. 200/- and asked me to get 50-60 Rakhi’s from the near by shop …BOSS I feel like he is going to have RAKSHA BHANDAN CELEBRATION tomorrow…and will ask each one of you brat to tie rakhi’s to the cute girls of this school…Come on do something, look I have done my job now you guys be on your toes.. I am going, take care “ Phew !

Now this was a Titanic Jolt to all of us.. but God gifted we were with 20 GB Hard Disk up in our head…so we didn’t have to scan much of our brains..ha ha.. Immediately we shoved in our fingers in our mouth ..so that we could vomit – puke out all the vada pav eaten and WOHLAA it came out…we loosened our ties, opened a few buttons of shirt.. sprinkled / splashed water on the face..and gave best of our performance a LA SHARUK KHAN style. In no time the word spread like fire, that few of the school children were fallen sick, our girl friends too joined the band wagon and were caressing us, blowing their cute white handkerchief on our face, it was in no time that a couple of teachers came running towards us..helped us with water..made us to sit comfortably, and called the School doctor, further gave phone calls to our residence too….by this time the principal too came to know about it and he too was in action on the field… we saw him firing the canteen manager, and asked him to stop distributing snacks..and to close the canteen to avert further un-wanted incidents

My Mom was the first to reach school, my driver came running towards me and said “ RAJBABA, Aare Keeya Ho Gaya “, chalo utho utho ( Get Up ).. I have your school bag with me, Madam ( My Mom ) is talking to the principal, we shall leave for home immediately, we shall visit the family Doctor on the way.. In a short time there were fleet of cars in the school campus all parents getting down, running hastily towards their kin, some abusing too. I got up in La style of Amitabh, the one hit with scores of bullets in SHOLAY. In no time I and a couple of my friends were on the back seat of my car, could see my Mom so worried… and we the BOSS happy go lucky to be out of the school campus ..Wroooooom.. On the way home, I was shown to the family doctor, he gave me a couple of medicine, syrup and asked to take rest for a couple of days, and told Mom not to worry, it was just an infection from the food eaten, nothing much to worry…OH !! Back home I jumped on my cozy bed, asked my maid servant to make some light snacks, Phew ! I could hear my Mom talking to my Dad on the phone and narrating the school incident… Let me tell you this was something which did not strike me.. for I was my dad’s PET..”LADLA BETA “.. My mom came to the room with the cordless phone and asked me to talk to Dad.. Phew !! He enquired what happened, and how was I feeling. He sounded quite tensed that made me feel quite bad.. and I almost had moist eyes.. late night he came home with lots of fruits and can juices… Well !! the next day was Raksha Bhandan.. and we the Brat BOSS were at home.. lying cool on the bed, and watching television and late evening attending our girl friends phone calls… ha ha.. two days later when we joined school, we could see a couple of RED FACES …ha ha ha… for those were the guys to whom the cute girls had tied RAKHI’s… they were almost fuming at us.. and we were just giggling inside that we were left quite safe

Now when I recollect the incident I have happy and sad tones to it.. Happy that we played a big trick.. but the saddest part and the most crudest fact of my life... I DON”T HAVE TRUE SISTERS.. for we are three brothers in the family and have no sister.. Oh ! but I am grateful to Internet, for it has given me three cute sisters.. KUSHI, RUNALI and her elder sister… and Brothers like Shilpi, Panna, Sajal, Dheeraj & Rahool and further the best of best friends like Samidha, Alisha, Surbhi, Fatima, Preeya, Chote Galib, Ankur, Sonu, Yesmeen and many a more… now tell me what more do I need in life.. T H E - E N D

Oh ! I forgot to warn you " You might need Metacin, Anacin, Crosin, or Paracitimol or may be RAJRATAN TEL/OIL, JANDU BALM, B-TEX MALAM, AMUL MACHO... after reading the above SAGA...for you might be having spliting headace by now' :)'..ha ha ha ha..' '

When we are lonely, alone and sitting in a corner of a room or just gazing at the bedroom ceiling..immortal memories do slip in our mind..and those moments many a times changes the ambiance of the room and mind too.... with me too it happened just a couple of days back ..
Before getting a promotion and transfer from Mumbai to New Delhi office, I had a colleague working with me, and we were too close to each other..well its obvious when you spend 8/10 hours a day working side by side you do tend to get close..now it depends on the individual how he maintains it.. with me I shared a platonic relation with her and shared many a personal things with her.. she knew my likes and dislikes too.. one fine day I came late to the office, and was aghast to see her crying and talking to other colleagues in one corner of the office, seeing me, she wiped her face and walked towards her desk..It was indeed a jolt for me..for I had never seen her crying in the last four years together..I went close to her and asked her what the matter was..she remarked "Oh ! so you are not aware whats going on on in the office, now don't act so Innocent..I understand every one wants to grow in life..but, at least I didn't expect this from you.."
Phew ! I replied .."trust me, I really am not aware of the scenario, and you very well know that I was on tour for the last couple of days..tell me what happened, did I commit a mistake..and if so..please forgive me..but right now cool your heals and tell me the fact"..she opened the her drawer and threw a letter on my desk..and said " Take this, have a look at this love letter....Love letter ?? Love letter addressed to me ?? back of the head I had this excitement..and was wondering ..who the hell is this angel..but I had to be careful in expressing the shock..I, without seeing the letter, said to her" Do you believe in this love letter..? are you mad..? don't you trust me, have I hidden any thing from you.. Nahi na..?now look I really don't know who the hell is this girl..and how the hell she had the guts to write this love letter to me..now will you tell me is she from our office or is she from the next complex, do you know her ??" before I could shoot more questions..she banged her hand on the letter and shouted " Stop it will you..don't act smart or Casanova, read it yourself..and shove it.." '' OOOhhhhh..:eek:what a language ... now now this was almost a blow below the belt..looking at her, I picked up the letter and at one glance of it..I could see stars in front of my eyes and couldn't believe my eyes.. I looked at her with a shock and holding the letter in my hand, getting up from my seat and asked her.."what the hell is this??"..she was like almost on fire and once again blasted with fowl words.." " Raj, will you sit down and read the letter completely and justify as a true gentlemen .." I was almost sweating all around my body, trembling while holding the letter.. Now you all must be wondering what the hell is going on, who's letter it is, and so on and so forth..well well well...let me explain ..
The letter was directly from chairman of the company, and addressed to me...It was a Promotion letter..I was Promoted as The General Manager of the company..now you must be wondering why the hell was my colleague crying, and why was she upset with me, and why did she call this letter as love letter..well for a fraction of seconds, I too had the same thoughts flashing in my mind..and turned towards her and asked her.."Honey ..come on, you should have been happy to read this letter before hand.., why were you crying..aren't you happy ??"..she again bombarded a couple of missile at me and said " DAMBOO..first sit down and read the letter completely..don't jump on conclusions.." Phew ! was wondering..where did this calm and quite girl get this blasted words..Now I started reading each and every word of it very patiently..before I could complete, she got up from her seat again crying and went back to her colleague(girls)..the last Para of the letter was indeed which did paralyze me It read " You are promoted as General Manager with effect from 1st of October 2009, and have to resume desk at New Delhi office.." NEW DELHI ..ME?? Phew !...so this last line was like the last straw that broke the camels back..and it was this line that made her cry, use fowl language and blah blah..well I had never taken her action/words in a hurting manner..for I knew her..I looked up and could see that she too was watching me..I just don't know as to how tears started flowing from my eyes...watching my tears roll.. she ran towards me and hug me so tight that I just could not control my self..and said " Honey, trust me, I really didn't knew anything about this.." with her index finger on her lips, she said "Husssssss...Quite..." now she wiped my tears and said "CONGRATULATION SIR" ..I ..I ...I ..just could control the flow of my tears, and this time I hugged her again and said.. I shall not accept this promotion, and if needed I shall resign from the company...I still remember her words that froze me.. "Do you want me to be happy, proud and smiling as ever in the office.." I said Yes at any cost..she gave her pen in my hand and said sign this letter..rest I have arrange/managed every thing including your accommodation etc..you are flying in two days to Delhi, and your new steno will receive you at the airport..I am sure you shall come out with flying colors in Delhi office too..I want you back in this office as Vice President of this company, and I am quite sure..you can and you will..my wishes are and shall always be with you.., but one thing which I say from the fathom of my heart..I shall miss you every second of my life..take care"..she left the room..but before closing the door, she turned around towards me smiled and threw a flying kiss..Oh Oh Oh my my my...its been around six months in delhi..but there has not been a single day when we have not talked to each other..I indeed miss every moments spend with her...I miss her a lot.. Guys ...I hope you enjoyed reading one more true stories of my life.:)

In this para I remember an incident wherein, I was traveling from Bangalore to Mumbai by Train..( Yes Train..No flight due to bad weather ), and I cultivated a new habit on the platform..that is to see the passenger chart list..as to know who is sitting next to me..Phew !! all males and almost their warranty period too was on the verge of expiry..but there was one cute female all alone..now I Bhola Bhala Insaan and 24 hours of traveling and nobody to talk at par..this could be my biggest nightmare..how do I sit close to her, make friendship, kill my 24 hours journey ?? these questions were hitting me hard..my intention were good and mind set clear, with clear & good ethic & Principals..and LOL !! an idea strike my head..and I went to the TC standing near the gate, and I told him..SAARJI, we are a couple traveling to Mumbai, but are located on different berths, and she traveling for the first time in train on a long journey, and very much scared..can you please relocate me next to her..the TC said going through the chart..Hello !! you are Raj Purohit and She is Miss........( I don't want to name her ) how come you two share a different surname..now this hit me below the belt..but being in Marketing & Admin for a long time we guys have all tools and tackles ready for the game..I replied..SAAR we are newly married, and her father has not changed her name in her name passport & Ration card..and he insisted the train tickets to be on her original name, and if you are not convinced, please ask my wife if I am her husband or no..on this he replied..Ok Ok !! let me see, he went inside and I waited outside with my fingers & legs crossed..after some time he came outside the couch wiping his fore head with red eyes looking at me..seeing him I could feel the earth below me slipping...Uhmm..so where was I, Oh Yeh !.. Now this TC came very near to me and says..look I have managed it with great difficulty to get a seat just next to your wife..for the passenger ( Mr. Chand Badshah )next to her was not willing to leave the seat, and has bought some fruits & Mineral water for her, and when I told him, that her husband too is traveling on the same train, same bogey, but has been allocated a different berth seat..so its a request that you occupy her husbands seat and let her husband have your seat..on this the gentlemen ( Mr. Chand Badshah )replied..how is it possible ?, I have not seen him, and it was she that requested me to buy some fruits and mineral water, then where the hell was he at that moment..the TC replied " Look I don't know where he was, might be he was arranging or looking after the language, but right now he is waiting outside, so please leave this seat.. ", "now before he changes his mind Sir, please occupy your new seat". PHEW !! I almost cleaned the sweat flowing from my forehead..curl / set my hair in style..gave TC a hundred buck, said " Thank you ", took my language and from the earlier seat rushed quickly towards her, immediately I pushed my language under her seat, and sat next to her..and requested, Miss, If you don't mind, Can I have that bottle of water, I shall get you a new one on the next station..Uhmmm..with a beaming smile she replied.." Oh ! Sure..please..these three words were an explosion in my heart, and could feel a few heart beat missing.. :stuart:gulping the cooool water down my throat..I replied " Thanks , So kind of you, are you going towards Bombay." she said not towards Bombay, but to Bombay,..before she could say something I dashed my reply.." Oh ! That's great, I too am going to Bombay, and am sure we shall have a good time Pass together, and Oh ! by the way, I am Raj...Raj Purohit, do stay in Bombay, and You ??.she replied." Well I am from Bangalore itself and have an interview to attend, and its my first visit to Bombay, and I am very scared..Uhmmm hearing this..I replied..Hey ! No prob, I am there to help you..just tell me where is your interview, and I shall personally accompany you..and by the way, where r u going to stay..she replied, Oh ! I have my Aunt staying in Bombay, and She is been informed of my visit, and is coming to pick me up from the station..Uhmm..I said in my Mind " Cholo Raj, Seat Mil Gayee, aur time pass bhi accha ho gayega..and remembered the song " Uhi kat gayega safaar sath chalne se..aur manzil..( CHUHI !! Opps ! Juhi Chawal Laa )
I still remember, we spent the entire night talking on various topic's, subjects, uhmm.. she was just great in all subject of life..including, sports, music, gen Knowledge, Films, Overseas news etc...Phew !! The entire 24 hours journey spent with her is still an immortal memory of my life..and fresh as ever..It was in Pune, that I told her how I got the seat next to her..and How Chandamama, Mr. Chand Badshah was allocated my seat..On hearing it she was numb for a few seconds and later she busted out laughing and said " Raj, you are a SLy Fox":D..on this I replied..sure I am..for I wanted to be near the Red Riding Hood..he he..
We met the very next day, for she was selected for the job back in Bangalore's top software company..celebrated together for her selection. After staying for a day , she left back for Bangalore, I was again at the station to see her off along with her aunt. we still are friends, do talk / write / meet quite often, sometimes I am in Bangalore on business tour, or she visit her bombay head office on some official work / reporting etc.. Its been 5 years now, and we share a platonic relation..I call her Uppu ( In Kannada its Salt ), and she calls me... oh!! Sorry..Yeh Andhar Ki Baat Hai !!
Sometimes I wonder..how did she come in my life or Vis-versa..might be destiny had to play its role..and Almighty wanted me to have a friend with whom I could share every thing..Well that's "THE END" ;)

It was a wonderful journey, basking in the glory
of the Himalayas and river Ganga. River Ganga is youthful and turbulent here. The Himalayas stand guard, blocking any intruders from coming in.
People come to Haridwar and then to Rishikesh with deep religious fervour. The temples , the chanting of the slokas in the temples the bells all of it take us back to our mythology. The hanging bridge at Laxman Jhola is the modern version of the one made by Laxman to cross the river.
The sporting lot take the opportunity of exploring the river and take recourse to sports like white water rafting.

Hi every one. Good day to you all. I may sound crazy. But who knows what i say now may become a fact in future!
First of all, our lives have become so advanced & sophisticated that hardly we have time to do anything useful.
But, with pc, one can do wonders sitting at home comfortably. Think of reading world papers online with latest updates? (printed papers contain past news only)! Think of ordering almost anything online without moving out of your home!! Also, you can be in touch with the world by using messangers, voip, chats, forums etc.
I can keep on writing, but the space may not permit me to do so.
Just think with your cool heads and see what i tell is correct.
Any comments & suggestions welcome.
Thanks for your time.....ramesh lalwani.

Hi

I am new to the form and a non technical guy.

At present I am using airtel broadband connection with "beetel 110BX1 ADSL2+Router" which has no wifi facility. Both User name and passoword are sent in the modem itself by their technical person to save from remembering whenever system needs to be formatted.

I have BSNL WIFI Router ( UTSTARCOM - WA3002G4) previously configured for BSNL broadband connection.

Can the form help me with step by step procedure by which I can configure UTSTARCOM modem so that I can use the Wireless facility from Airtel Connection

Thanks for the support in advance.
