what a serious question
after thinking, discussing and apllying thought i came to conclusion that in sholay movie jaya got all the chances to make out with amitabh but still she did nothing (we missed some good scenes) so vote for compromise and dignity.... Jaya Bachchan in Sholay

Jaya Bachchan in Sholay will be in my list of most desired daughter in-law...

Default Have u forgotten the 'unglamorous' roles?

Seems everybody has forgotten the great roles of Indian Cinema...
Lemme refresh ur mind a bit... so that voting will be easier for u... 1st I start with my favorite...

************************************************** ********

God bless Aamir Khan and Ketan Mehta for casting Ameesha Patel in Mangal Pandey... As Jwala, a widowed village girl, Patel looks very believable and any anyway, anything will look better than that gross blonde... Jwala is rescued from becoming burnt at her husband’s pyre by Captain Gordon (Toby Stephens)... The relationship develops into a deep-rooted affection and she becomes the emotional anchor and thread of the captain’s private life... We most definitely watched Patel in this lifetime of a role that she’s bagged for herself...

************************************************** ********

Sholay wasn’t just about Veeru, Jai, Basanti, Thakur and Gabbar... It was also about the quite, docile and widowed Radha, whose life was all about being Thakur’s sincere and respecting daughter-in-law, wearing a white sari, visiting the local temple frequently with her head bent and eyes never to meet any stranger’s eyes...

But that’s until Jai started to have romantic feelings for her... The ‘formidable’ couple was never to be... But Jaya Bachchan played undoubtedly Bollywood’s most challenging role...

************************************************** ********

Most of you would agree to the fact that Aishwarya Rai did immense good to herself and all her fans (and all her critics) by taking up the role of Binodini... One of the most complex characters she’s ever played...

Chokher Bali was about passion and play and as the young, lonely and beautiful widow, Aishwarya was at her seductive best...

An enchantress, she had a fatal attraction for all those who happen to come close to her... The dense black mane, the bare back, the clean, no make-up look, Chokher Bali was good...

************************************************** ********

Prem Rog was a film about rich Vs poor, old traditions and prejudices... But more than anything else, it was a love story... A ‘poor’ childhood friend takes it upon himself to bring back joy in his ‘rich’ widowed friend...

He takes it upon himself to bring her back to life... He wants to rebuild her faith in love and life...

If not for anything else, Padmini Kolhapure will be remembered for this film. Shammi Kapoor played her father while Rishi Kapoor was the lover...

************************************************** ********

Sharmila won a Filmfare for her portrayal of a young widow in Aradhana... The movie might have given India its first superstar in Rajesh Khanna, but it was Sharmila who carried the movie on her delicate shoulders... Her’s is a role of a lifetime, tracing her development from a beguiling young beauty to a bereft young widow and mother, to a wrinkled, hapless old woman... As a young mother, her lullaby chanda hai tu, mera suraj hai tu tenderly captures her beauty as she rocks her child to sleep...

************************************************** ********

Asha Parekh played a ‘fake’ widow in Kati Patang...
Through the course of the movie, she falls in love with the man she unknowingly left at the alter (Rajesh Khanna) - he falls in love with her - but she is of course now a “widow” and the widow of his best friend... She won the Best Actress Award for this performance - Asha was very appealing in a very vulnerable way... The pain and the love she expressed was very strong...

************************************************** ********

If Mohabbatein belonged to someone, it was Shah Rukh Khan... But the multi-starrer was responsible for launching many careers...

Preeti Jhangiani’s was one of them... As the young, beautiful, pretty, talented and dedicated widow, Preeti did a good job...

And the way her relationship with Jimmy Shergill was depicted, came across as believable and real... For a debut, Preeti chose a different and bold character and did justice to it... Unfortunately, Mohabbatein is also the only film of hers I remember...

************************************************** ********

Big B is in Babul what Sanjeev Kumar was in Sholay, a father-in-law who tries to marry of his widowed daughter in law... Rani Mukherji plays Malvika Talwar who knows the difference between friendship and love and is convinced that love and marriage happen once in lifetime... Malvika resigns herself to a life of a widow, her sole motive for living appears to be to look after Ansh, her son...
