    Default Racism in Bollywood

I was watching Singh is Kinng (the most awful Bollywood production i have seen to date) and one thing i couldn't ignore was that most of the villains were black except at one instance where they were shown impoverished. I know there is a lot of hunger in Africa but I have never seen an African (or a kaala person cast in admirable light), just wanted to know your thoughts in prejudice in Indian cinema. I know even some of my relatives back home have prejudices towards Africans. Why do you think it is?

Maybe these actors were well suited to play dummy characters that they had to portray.Economics could also be on of the reasons to cast them.

Indians always like white skin... and despise dark skin... even if an Indian guy is cherry black in color... he will want to marry a fair skinned color girl... lol

I don't think 'racism' is the right word. They all belong to the
same race anyway. I think it is more like 'prejudice'. Definitely
in India light skinned is preferred to dark skin in general.

i think the concept of racism is vague in india as we all belong to the same race.it is more abt people who go outside india who have to bear the brunt of racism!

How can you ever say so? Indians are one of the most racist people:

    • We have casteism which is the first form of racism - my caste is higher than your caste.
    • Within your own caste, we have a sub-caste, jamaat, etc.
    • We distinguish and group ourselves by our wealth.
    • We have a fair skin tendency - most males want a gori dulhan. Even the beauty cream ad's are full of fairness skin ointments and lotions.
    • We cannot tolerate people from other states residing in our neighbourhood - this is regionalism and xenophobia but the roots are in racism
    • Need I go on ...
*** Never argue with an idiot. ***

Typing in points is easy. To do this:

    1. Type all your points
    2. Click on 'Go Advanced' button (if you in 'Quick Reply' mode)
    3. There are two icons on the tool bar - one for numbered list and other for bullet list.
    4. Select the text that you wish to be bulleted or numbered and click on the toolbar button

    To do this manually:

    1. Before the bulleted list begins type [ LIST ]. For numbered list type [ LIST=1 ] (without the space after [ and before ]).
    2. For each bullet/numbered list, type[*] before each sentence
    3. End the text by [ /LIST ] (without the space after [ and before ]).
