Tastes of people have changed so has the movies.Earlier movies were simple and had direct relationship with the common man but now days they provide an outlet for people to escape from sordid realities of life.Kishore Kumar was a great actor and performed very well in comic roles, those were timeless classics.
Talking of today,Andaz Apna Apna was a laugh a riot and never fails to amuse us.Jaane bhi do yaaron was outrageously funny and had some of the finest actors. These were real comedies and made everyone laugh out loud and had no double meanings or pun.

Puspak is possibly one of the finest comedy film from India. And a silent one at that. Its all the more difficult to evoke comedy without the dialogues.
Golmaal (amol palekar) and Chupke Chuke are also great.
Although anybody who had the chance of watching the bengali original of Chupke Chupke would agree that it was even funnier.

If someone likes old hindi comedy movies then I would recomend 'Pyar Kiye Ja' is a must watch.

Mehmood plays a caricature of a file director to perfection.Great chemistry between him and Om Praksh.Ably supported by Kishore Kumar and Shashi Kapoor. The film has some great funny moments and the best one is where Director Mehmood tells his father Ompraksh the story of his movie. This is one the most memorable scene in Indian comedy fils of all times.

Good question...found out the answer

"Before Independence, the British had imposed a system of Indian Penal Code.Section 420 of that penal code describes the punishment for cheating, impostering etc. From this, a social word evolved synonym to cheater, that is 420."

On the similar lines the explanation for 10 numberi.Normally the cheaters and fraud persons are called 10 numberi. In the Police station they maintain a recored petty theifs and cheaters of the city. That record is kept in a register which has number 10 assigned to it.And hence the name.....

BTW, there is old bollywood movie my same name starring Manoj Kumar and Hema Malini.
