    Default Broadband and Airtel 4G

    Hi,

I stay in Mumbai and using Tikona Broad Band connection but as I stay on rent at the time of switching flats it really becomes a trouble to transfer the broad band too. What do you suggest that using a "WiFI Device, play and plug" will be a good idea? Does airtel 4G provides such a device?

Yes they do and it costs Rs1500 for the modem but their 4G plans are too expensive.

When you say modem - you are referring to the "plug and play device" - at least that is the term the representative from Airtel has used. Yes plans are too expensive.

Said that, what can be the other option for a good surfing speed if I do not want o use a router set-up? Please advise.

Why don't you use your mobile as hot spot? If its support 3G/4G network that's the cheap and best option! You might need to connect it to the charger as 3G network drains battery very quick! Having said that, note that these devices (mobile or USB dongle) does not support port forwarding (if you are into games, or application which requires port forwarding)

I personally find it very annoying having to turn on wifi hotspot on mobile phone and would go for a wifi usb modem any day. I have been using Reliance 3g, MTS, MTNL 3G and some more that I dont remember using wifi usb modems and it is just convenient having an always on connection without having to worry about turning hotspot on my mobile phone.

Airtel 4G also has smartbytes now but it is only available for post paid connection and it does bring down the cost per GB if you are a heavy user.

One thing I can guarantee is that on Airtel 4G you would get excellent latency and if you are a gamer you would absolutely love Airtel's 4G due to low pings to servers in Singapore and Europe. It is almost at par with having a cable connection and does not give you a feel of a wireless connection like on 3G connection where lag is a norm.

I don't like using hot spot unless that's the only option I'm left with. As I said before I do have a connection with router and siblings but I'm not satisfied with the surfing speed. I need a good surfing and download speed. I don't want to seed the torrents, so low up speed is fine .

On the other hand I do have a hand set which can support 3G/4G. But vodafone post paid rates are not that cheap, to say, as you get for the broad band but I might have missed some memo. If you think otherwise, I'd like to know how much would they cost.

I'm not in to gaming but yes some website development - all in all a "domestic user", you can say.

    @ OP
In Mumbai, Reliance CDMA EVDO has very good service and they offer wifi datacards.
PS - you are possibly one of the few Tikona customers who are satisfied with the service.
