    Default Broadband speed test

I have seen a lot of members using different speed tests and they wonder why they get different results every time and some of them actually see half the speed they are supposed to get in the speed tests and some show double the speed and so on.

This is the speed test I have always used and is considered to be the most reliable utility by isps in UK ... infact this is the only speed test which you can use as evidence in a court of law in UK.

I have uploaded the file for you and it is a exe file whic you will need to install before you can use it.

Give it a try and trust me you would never use anything else.

There are two types of tests you can choose from once it is installed quick test and extended test and the extended test will take about 3-5 mins depending on your connection speed.

Please do leave your comments on how you liked it or disliked it.

Thats a quick test... run an extended test and you will get a lot more information It will take a bit of time but its worth the wait and you can get a good idea of your ISP's network as well not just the speed you get as an end user and even speed is conducted using different locations across the globe and you can sort of get a general idea of what your isp is upto.

Even in this quick test pic if you scroll down on your result and check out no5 it shows your speed using the nearest server.
Its good to run an extended test before you come to a conclusion.

I dont think many people are using this utility. I have been using it for years now and would never use anything else to check the health of my broadband connection.

For your plan, there is no single advertised upload/download speed. You can enter 2000 Kbps download and 1000 Kbps upload if you wish. The advertised speed only the speed that you wish to compare, it will not influence the results. Give any value you feel ok, your results will be compared to this value.

:-) I am using BSNL 256kbps plan and am quite satisfied with the net speed. Had tested earlier using some speed tests which showed satisfactory performance too... test on BSNL site gave speed at 316kbps... / 798.6 kbps (at another time yesterday)..speedtest net..... gave: download speed - 0.27Mbps; upload speed - 0.32 Mbps; ping - 57 ms

The speed test was quite comprehensive .... however what i got as results made me quite concerned as it highlights ping time and packet loss issues.... can u guide how to resolve (test results in "" below)

"Dan Elwell's Broadband Speed Test (unregistered)
Speed Test Report 09/10/04 19:11 - Full test

Test conducted at: 10/4/2009 7:11:05 PM
    Test sequence: Full test

Please note that these results are a snapshot of this particular moment. Run the test a few times to ensure maximum accuracy. Although the test has been constructed to be highly accurate, no guarantees can be made to the level of accuracy experienced in everyday use.

Test 5: Ping times to east Asia servers

Ideally, you should get a result of around 250 ms (lower is better)

Apache cdpa nsysu edu tw: 450.3 ms
Apache cbn net id: 340 ms
    Mirror tw: 452.7 ms
Apache cbn net id: 341.7 ms

This result is much poorer than expected and should be investigated.

Test 7: Ping times to central Asian servers

Ideally, you should get a result of around 70 ms (lower is better)

Apache cbn net id: 341 ms
    Mirror tw: 451.7 ms
    Apache hkmirror org: 278.3 ms
    Mirror tw: 449.7 ms

This result shows serious problems with your ping times, and should be investigated.

Test 9: Download speeds from east-coast USA servers

Ideally, you should get a result of around 256 Kb/s (higher is better)

Apache mirrors hoobly com: 244 Kb/s

The results of this test indicate no problems.

Test 10: Download speeds from central Asian servers

Ideally, you should get a result of around 256 Kb/s (higher is better)

Apache cbn net id: This test failed due to a server timeout or other error.

Too many server errors occurred therefore this test is inconclusive.

Test 12: Packet loss en route to a UK server

Ideally, you should get a result of around 0 % (lower is better)

    Broadbandspeedtest co uk: 50 %
Mirror inetc co uk: This test failed due to a server timeout or other error.

An unacceptable level of packet loss has been detected which should be investigated.

Test 13: Packet loss en route to an east-coast USA server

Ideally, you should get a result of around 0 % (lower is better)

    Less cogeco net: 20 %
Apache mirrors northco net: This test failed due to a server timeout or other error.

An unacceptable level of packet loss has been detected which should be investigated.

    Test 14:

Ideally, you should get a result of around 0 (lower is better)

Apache cdpa nsysu edu tw: 18
    Apache oss eznetsols org: 44

An unacceptable level of packet loss has been detected which should be investigated.

I tested my broadband connection speed using this IP Details.com : Internet Speed test.
    It's too slow...
Is there any way to increase speed?

Go to speedtest.net and post the forum link. (shown in the result, just click the button and paste here)

    1. For direct downloads : Try TCP/IP optimizer from Speedguide.net
    2. For torrent : Try port forwarding

Speed varies according to location. Whatever you do you will not get anything more than your connection speed

Please mention, modem - model and make
