    Nice info. just4kix.
Using Windows 7 Home Premium(64 bit)
My query is that should I delete the original host file from its directory. Because the file I edited is in the text format while the original hosts file is in 'file' format. Thus, there are now two hosts files in the etc folder- one hosts in the text format and another in file format.

In Windows 7, the hosts file is protected from editing. The file is still in text format but without any extension. The file must be without extension (an inheritance from /etc/hosts from Unix). Any other file will be ignored.

To edit the file, I had login in safe mode. But here is a solution: You cannot modify the Hosts file or the Lmhosts file in Windows Vista and Windows 7
