I have used BSNL EVDO and NIC, BSNL GPRS, Airtel GPRS.
  • BSNL EVDO-
    • Speed varies from 10kBps to 200kBps, you may get less than 10kBps and more than 200kBps in one house at different places.
    • Try before you buy.
  • BSNL NIC-
    • Speed is constant but the signal disappears sometimes without any clue and you may suffer for that.
    • Download speed closes to 21kBps.
  • BSNL GPRS-
    • The cheapest 99/- unlimited on prepaid(Odisha only,don't know about the rest)
    • Browsing speed is ok.
    • forget about any major download, speed max is 5kBps.
  • Airtel GPRS-
    • Browsing speed is good,download speed closes to 13kBps MAX and avg speed is 9kBps.
    • consistant speed,300/- unlimited(Odisha only)

I have used a Reliance Data card connection, and i found it to be very good, it never got disconnected, gave a good speed and connection was very easy. I have only had a few signal problems, but this was because i was in a remote area, but otherwise i found that for mobile connecrions Reliance data card is good, and worth trying out f a mobile connection is required.

I heard that TATA photon unlimited usage plan has been withdrawn, is it true ?

And what about the ad showing 16mbps speed Airtel BB.

I have used

TATA INDICOM SURF TO WHIZ

->very slow
->no disconnections
->very very costly plans
->No unlimited plans

BSNL EVDO

->Good speeds but variable
->very good plans / costwise
->Does nt work in many places ... signal reception is very poor
->Not available in many areas

I am using

Reliance BB+

->Plans are good
->Excellent speeds
->excellent signal reception
->3.1MBPS currently the fastest Wireless internet provider
->minimum speed :-468kbps (tested in a remote village)
avg speed:- 2.xmbps
max:-3.1 mbps
->very user friendly (the device)
->No unlimited plans (Fair usage policy)
->No linux client

As on date, Reliance EVDO (BB+) is possibly the best wireless option avaialable with full mobility and very good speeds, anmd relatively good plans. The only drawback is the Fair Usage Policy.

PS : i just discovered that you can configure wvdial+Genome-ppp (in Ubuntu) or kppp(in Kubuntu) to use BB+ ....... works perfectly in Linux without a client

Better stay away from Reliance. Their service support is pathetic.
