I've to buy a wi-fi enabled router... Which is the current cheap & best option? The area I want it to cover is atleast 1500 sq. feet...

No fair idea about prices. Check eBay (you don't have to order from there but they are reliable).

You can opt for Netgear. Most home wireless routers will cover 1500 sq.ft., i.e., a typical home. But wireless routers have been designed in America with thinner (inside) wood walls taken into consideration. Having to sit 20m away from the router with 2 or 3 cement-brick walls interfereing will test the router capacity to exterme.

    Thanks...

One thing I wanted to know is can I replace my current airtel connection's Beetel 220BX1 ADSL2+ modem with my older BSNL's UTSTARCOM (modem+router)? If yes, what settings I need to configure for Airtel connection in the latter?

    BSNL's UTSTARCOM (modem+router)
    Mention model make.
If old model see this for reference :
The little I know about Dataone Broadband Services offered by BSNL
    Use VPI/VCI 1 32 for Airtel in any modem/
    modem+Wifi router

    rest of the procedure same.

Maddy i suggest you to go for Netgear DG modem + router. It's really good and will not give you strange problems. It is easily available in all stores and not very expensive too

Bhaai I was happy with the performance of UTSTARCOM when I had BSNL connection... If that modem solves my purpose with airtel, I won't spend more on another... Anyway thanks for the suggestion... May come handy in future...

Yes. If in working condition ! (*conditions apply!)

    Power unit may need replacement,
if stored for a long period.
( The electrolytic condenser could have dried up !)

    Addl ref:http://www.calcuttatelephones.com/da...all/mdm08.html

    Para two:
Airtel will/may supply the modem/WIFI router Beetel 450BX free of rent ( No outright purchase possible)
(Model will be same as WA 3002-g4 wireless.
    well documented.)
Just tell CC you need it for laptop use .
Additional NON refundable deposit may be required.

In my opinion and experience Netgear is the best router to use, its reliable and is of good brand.

I had a a problem with my router only once, but this was because i had a sify connection and apparently there is something wrong in their cables which burnt out a part in the router itself.

The worst router ever seen...., when it comes to coverage it don't have the capability to boost signal upto 50 meters.... the Best router is WRT54G linksys with 4 dbi antenna which can given coverage upto 150 meters outdoor and 80 meters indoor.....

Default range wrt54g claimed 150 meters and 80 meters indoors

    @birender
    From C-Net review

Unfortunately, the range of the WRT54G in our testing was similar to that of 802.11a: 76 feet in a typical office setting. That's roughly 25 percent shorter than a typical 802.11b device's (although range varies widely among 802.11b devices).
Please post test results for ranges claimed by you
Also if any reference link/website is available.

I am wireless engineer, i customized my one it comes with 2dbi antenna so i replaced with 4dbi. now days antennas are available upto 4 to 8 dbi in india if you replace antenna with 15 dbi then you can get a coverage of 1.5 Km NLOS and 5 KM LOS.
