Default (Beware)Will get huge usage/downloads due to limited or no connectivity error.

    Dear members,

Recently I got new laptop and wifi connection from BSNL (Rs. 250 home, 1GB download limit/month).

Now the BSNL technician gave ITI router (and ran away ... offcourse without installing or doing any connection). I made the connection by calling my friends.

When on clicking ITI connection in list of wifi connections, I would get limited or no connectivity error and the signal strength would be excellent. When i would enter my username and password to connect to internet than my internet would start working, so I didnt gave much thought to limited or no connectivity error.

But even for surfing common sites, I started getting huge usage/downloads. Just for checking 3-4 yahoo mails, it showed 5 MB of usuage!! Within a week the portal showed 600MB usuage!!

I got this problem of limited or no connectivity rectified with one of the posts here ( cant post url due to site restrictions )

Now I see that the downloads/usage is as per what it should really be. So I think this high usage/download rate was due to this error.

This is especially useful for those who have limited plans and also for those who dont want their bandwidth to be blocked.

    Thanks and regards,
    Nirav

    Hi Dilip,

    Thank you for your consideration.

But the question is can such network problems create such unusual downloads/usage??

1.Probably your WIFI network is unsecured.

2.see this link for similar settings.
Chennai Telephones- Changing password in DataOne Pre-configured modem

3When you open Network/ show all connections
    for Your WIFI network.
Does it show secured or unsecured ?
do you see any other wireless network ?

Such errors are quite rare. You can use a Bandwidth meter to check whether it is through your system or someone else is hacking into your modem.

Click here to download . Please note that the value may differ a bit, please check with portal at regular intervals. Also leave a gap of 50 MB.

If the usage is not through your system, your bandwidth meter won't record the usage. And please think about password protecting your modem or encryption.

    ----------------------------

Please use this Bandwidth meter. Keep the visual display ON. It will keep a record of your usage. From which you can confirm is someone is playing with your setting.

You can use both meters. I use both of them. First one is simple and easy to use. Second one is a bit advanced.

    Hi Dilip and essbebe,

Thank you for your consideration. Yes it shows that my connection is secure.

Moreover, I am planning to change to 750 UL plan. Lets see how things shape up in future.
