This guide is applicable to people who use private trackers. Don't read this if you love TPB, mininova or demonoid.
As I’m sure most of you have experienced, seeding on some of the fast pirate trackers can be difficult sometimes.
So here is a guide to help you out, who are having seeding/ration problems, or even if you just want to find out how to seed faster and easier.
1. Firstly, if your ratio is getting really bad, Stop downloading all unpopular/big files. Instead download popular smaller ones.
2. Downloading unpopular and old torrents usually results in download that you cannot easily seed to leechers, and thus is harmful to your ratio.
3. Try and be one of the first to completely finish the download, this means download one at a time as soon as it’s released, people will then need to leech from you.
4. Seed everything you download until the tracker drops the torrent or you run out of disk space and HAVE to remove it, there is no reason not to. You will be amazed when somebody happens to download that same torrent a few days later and all of a sudden you have another 400MB uploaded because you were one of few remaining seeds.
5. Don't always go after an entire torrent all at once, download a few small pieces of high traffic torrents and let those little pieces seed for a while. Then go get the rest of the torrent once you have beefed up your ratio a bit. You can do this on highly leeched torrents, to increase up your ratio even if you don't want the torrent.
6. Find a torrent that has many more leechers than seeders, then download this exact torrent from another tracker or even better a public tracker then once its finished seed to all the people who need it on the pirate tracker. To seed, simply download the .torrent file from the private tracker (make sure it has the same file location and file name), utorrent should then recognise this, and automatically check the file, then begin to upload. It may be a good idea to try and do this for smaller torrents (>1gb) as the seeder/leecher ratios may change by the time you finish downloading.
8. If you are going to jump on a TV episode late, it’s better to download a single file from a series pack, these stay active longer.
9. Don’t download a poor quality film they soon die out, when a better one is released.
10. Jump on releases by well know crackers/film uploaders as soon as they are released, many people will wait for these releases and you can seed to them!
11. Be sure to avoid the "vanilla" torrents. because they are full of partial seeders that show up in the leechers but are not actually leeching much at all.
12. If you are from India (as most of us are in this forum) leave your PC on overnight, the high number of US leechers at this time can give you good seed speeds.
13. It may be a good idea to limit your download speed to your upload speed.
14. Set utorrent to start on start-up, leave utorrent on in the background while you browsing (maybe limit max speed to 1 which you can browse easily)
15. Don’t encrypt utorrent connection unless you need to, only encrypted people can leech from you
16. Make sure you are connectible by using port forwarding.
17. Have patience getting a good ratio takes time.
Additional info:
o Major apps usually small in file size, but can run for weeks before tapering off.
o TV show episodes are very hot for a few hours to a couple days, depending on the series, but then die off quickly.
o Movies are pretty hot for a few days and taper off slowly for a week or more.
o Full season TV series are often hot for a couple weeks or so.
