What does QOS on a Dlink 300 wireless router do??
does enabling it makes surfing and buffering better?
i am using a wimax connection??
What are the advantages and disadvantages of enabling it??

Well that'd depend what kind of a network you got. QoS is Quality of Service. If enabled on a router it could give priority to a particular type of traffic and normalize others. For example if you have voice traffic and http traffic over the same network, enabling QoS could give priority to voice traffic over normal http traffic to avoid the inherent jitters and delays in voice you get through a congested network. Technically speaking it gives importance to data packets based on the settings of the QoS Priority bits in the http header. That is also to say that if QoS is enabled on a network, a data packet with QoS priority bits set ought to get priority over those that aren't.

Ideally QoS shouldn't matter too much if you are not over-subscribed or if you have enough bandwidth. And in the kind of small home networks that we have in our homes, I doubt if it'd make any difference whether you set it or not.
