Lightbulb Disable Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) if the connection is slow.

    Solution

The Windows Vista operating system has the ability to use the new Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6). Most routers purchased before December 2006, however, are not capable of using IPv6. It may be necessary to disable IPv6 in order to establish wireless or wired communication with your router or Ethernet Local Area Network (LAN). Follow this procedure to disable IPv6 when the Vista based Computer is unable to connect to the Internet or a network, or the connection is slow:
    1. Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
    2. In the Control Panel window, click Network and Internet.
    3. In the Network and Internet window, click Network and Sharing Center.
    4. In the Network and Sharing Center window, under Tasks, click Manage network connections.
    5. On the menu bar, click Advanced and then click Advanced Settings.
    6. In the Advanced Settings window, on the Adapters and Bindings tab, in the Bindings for Wireless Network Connection: box, click to choose the appropriate connection type and then click to remove the checks in the boxes next to all instances of Internet Protocol Version 6.
    7. Click on the OK button.

    NOTES:
    * You will need to complete this procedure for each network connection type being used.
    * To re-enable IPv6 to accommodate a router that supports that protocol, follow this same procedure to replace the checks in the boxes next to Internet Protocol Version 6.

In Windows Vista it is enable by default and in Windows XP you have the choice of installing it.
    • Is there difference when IPv6 protocol enabled ?
    • Does any software/service use the IPv6 protocol ?
I have disable it and haven't found any problem with any of the software/services yet.

As I suggested in my previous post, it is recommended to disable the IPv6 Protocol in Windows Vista if the Computer is unable to connect to the Internet or a network, or the connection is slow.

It's one of the troubleshooting steps if the Computer is using IPv4 protocol to connect to the network.

In case of connecting to Internet, it depends on the ISP. If they are offering IPv6 protocol based service, you will have to enable it.

As of now, I haven't heard that any ISPs are offering it in India.
