Default Is it necessary to keep the router/modem ON..

    Hi

    I have a combo plan.

    My question is:
Is is necessary to keep the router/modem on if I just want to use the fixed line phone?

If I switch off the router from the mains, the battery turns on. After the battery is over, the phone line stops working. Is it how it works. So is it that the fixed line needs an electric supply?

    Simple Q - please answer?

Router and fixed phone are not at all related. In my home, I can use landline irrespective of the status of router. Make sure your connection appreciate the following diagram.

^i observed a problem at X's place, whenever there is a phone call, the net slows down and at times stops to work! Is it because of the -not recommended-connection show above??

Never by-pass the splitter. The splitter does the job of separating the high frequency ADSL signals from low frequency telephone signals. If the splitter is not installed correctly, the broadband connection is likely to go down every time the phone rings. Any parallel phone connections should be after the splitter and not before it. The line from the exchange should first enter into the splitter’s Line jack. The phone should be connected only to the phone jack of the splitter. The ADSL modem should be connected to the modem/DSD jack of the splitter. A two way jack may be connected to this phone jack to install your parallel telephones. The wire leading into the modem should not be running parallel or close toelectrical wiring.

Fixed line gets the needed electric supply from the exchange, we dont have to bother about that.

Either your setup is wrong or there is some problem in your line.
