Question Query regarding a limited throughput

I have just got BSNL broad band(500 home plan). I have a Nokia-Siemens 1600 Router(ethernet&wifi capability). Now, since my line bandwidth is 2mbps max i should accordingly get a downstream of 2048 kbps. But my router homepage shows a downatream of 1024 kbps. The max download speed I get is around 100-106 KBps. . My speedtest.net results for mumbai server are:
    Download:0.86Mb/s
    Upload:0.34 Mb/s
    ping:95ms

    Downstream Rate:1024 Kbps
    Upstream Rate:509 Kbps
    Downstream Att.: 14 db
    Up':4,2 db
    D'stream SNR:34.4 db
    U'stream SNR : 22 db
    Attainable Rate(down):10248 kbps
    " " (up):588 kbps

    Please guide me

    @nishadhenator

Go to router page select Advanced Setup >> DSL

    DSL settings
Only Select the ADSL Mode G.DMT

    Save/Apply

After saving this ADSL mode check the Download Rate and Upload Rate in your Router.

I had tried using it, but no use. What influences the downstream rate?and what exactly is it?? Before i buy a new modem or something, I should know what the root cause is.

I tried doing that too but the downstream rate doesn't change and neither my max download speed. What exactly is this downstream rate?
