Default Why is my internet browser so slow even after trying so many suggested changes?

I use BSNL dataone broadband facility in my computer for internet browsing. Initially my web browser used to start very fast but gradually the browser started taking time to open the first page. Now a days it is taking sometimes 10 minutes or so to open the first page, but once the first website is loaded, the browser starts working at normal speed. Following suggestions from many, I have started using google chrome instead of firefox, istalled ccleaner, and changes the TCP/IP DNS server address suitably (earlier it was blank), but alas! nothing seems to work for me. Now a days when I first start the browser, I keep getting messages (at the left bottom of the browser corner) like -- resolving the proxy, connecting, waiting for (website_name), etc. But if during this period, I open the command prompt and give commands like: ping google.com, I get normal response with average time taken for round trip to be 360ms or so. Why is it so that by doing "ping" I can see that web connection is normal but my web browser (mozilla/google chrome) is not able to load the same site? How do I solve this problem?

Run a scan using CA Yahoo Antispy. May be your computer is infected.

1.Have you used all the options available in Ccleaner ?
2.Check the new facility to delete System Restore points.
    selectively.
3.Have you done disk clean up defragmentation etc ?

4.How many applications are there in StartUP ? Keep minimum.
5.Have you updated your OS ?
    6. Browser : update to IE8..

    7. Try AVANT browser.
If you use any U/L tariff plan any browser OK.
If limited tariff plan Best choice FireFox
    with add ons 30 % to 40% more d/l u/l
    Next choice : Opera
(within say 1.0GB or 1.5GB or 2.5 GB)

    8. Mention modem/model/make and tariff plan.

    9. Download Advance System Care ( free applcation )
    and clear Registry etc.

    10. Note free disk space in C:/ now and after the tweaks above.

    11. Speed test here and report results.
    Airtel (Java required)
    Feedback.

Perhaps, one needs to check the RAM and other parameters of the system.
I handled some cases where the RAM was just 256MB and winXP, IE8 etc were installed. most of the programs that start automatically occupy the RAM by allocation and thuss might make your system in general slow.
as we work on human level typing , we may not notice the slowness, but as it comes to downloads, it certainly impacts, i feel.
As rightly pointed, java enabling and resetting the browser configurations also would help.

Thanks for your responses. Here are the details you wanted to give more specific suggestions:

    1. I am running kaspersky nternet security. Do I still need to run
any antispyware? Also is it possible that kaspersky is at the root
of the slow-browser-at-start problem I am facing? How do I know?

    2. No I have kept the default set-up of ccleaner. The are some advanced options
which I have not yet turned on. Frankly, my knowledge is poor reagrding
what those advanced options do. If you suggest, I will turn them on.

3.Earlier I was using internet explorer, then switched to
mozilla firefox and this had the same problem. Finally I changed to google
chrome and unfortunately chrome is also having the same problem.

    4. Modem: ADSL MODEM, Model: Nokia Siemens Networks Residential Router 1600
    Splitter: 4kHz, plan: 1Gb/month

    5. I am not using any registry cleaner softwares. I heard rumors that
many free registry cleaner softawres contain spywares and malwares.
I am afraid because of that. Please what would be safe for me.

    6. Free disk space in C: 4.34 Gb, Total size 9.76 Gb

    7. RAM=512 Mb

Pleae note that other components of my computer do not have any speed problem. And the slowness problem of the browser show up only at the time of start. Just after turning broadband on, the ping command directed to known websites give cormal results but chrome takes say 15 minutes to load Google search page!

As I already said give a try to Opera!
I assure you will not face any problem & you will not return to slowish IE & buggy Firefox.....

It can either be a ram issue, or a virus that's embedded into port 80. Your saying it's connecting through a proxy, that proxy could be a malicious remote computer. Use trendmicro to scan your computer for that stuff.
