The scheduled downloading would be a huge help to the users here who have free nighttime downloading. But being a programmer and all, I don't see how you can possibly accelerate a download from a program alone, unless it fiddles with window's settings.

IDM is not a freeware. But is better than FDM. Used both.

Anyone used Gigaget ? It downloads from multiple mirrors at the same time to get maximum speed. Other download managers may have the similar feature, but you won't know which mirror(s) it's using.

I downloaded a TV episode from megaupload and when checked I found the name of a site/mirror it's connected to besides megaupload. When I checked the website I found that they host the whole season of that TV series and can be downloaded without any limitations like in megaupload.

And Gigaget has a feature called NetGrid technology that can tap the unused resources of networked PCs and servers, and improves your download speed. Don't know if it's real, but it's certainly faster than some of the other download managers I have used.

If not for the above mentioned features I like Internet Download Manager. I haven't explored all the features of IDM but I think it's missing Zip Preview feature.
