IM glad i am finally talking to someone intelligent at least i feel that way

question these so called antenna specialists put this wimax antenna(coaxle cable) on my roof and said all i need is a wimax modem(no monthly fee) and i would be able to get my wiling neighbors signals from the nearby area and beyond

is this true? and if so where do i purchase this wimax modem coaxle cable with built in router do i have to also be connected to a company
clear co for instance to connect to any neighbors signals and get on th einternet

with wifi you can go anywhere with your laptop and pick up free internet at wifi hotspots or a passing open lock connection right?

It really depends which country you are talking about.

In Peru you can walk around a shopping mall with your portable Wimax plugin device with your laptop and connect to free wimax zones just like you would do at any good coffee shop in USA.

Which country are you asking about. In India we dont have mobile wimax yet so there are no free wimax zones either. Not that you would find many free wifi zones in India just for argument sake.

Move somewhere near to university. There speed is great much like wimax but I don't think what they give you is wifi/wimax. I think they are giving from their own network & turning it wifi like we do with adsl through modem.

Dont you think moving your house for accessing free internet would be an over kill ?

Alright in that case:

No you cannot connect to your neighbors network using your wimax antenna.

Your Neghbor probbably has a wireless lan that you are talking about and it is possible to connect if it is unsecured but if it is a password protected secure network you havent got a chance unless your friendly neighbor gives you the password which seems unlikely from what you posted...

In either case it would be illegal for you to do so.

How about calling up an ISP say Aol or any other that is available in your area and paying for a broadband connection?

I can provide you a few O800 numbers to call them toll free if you want....

Unless you are prepared to go to jail don't try.
