    Default satellite internet cafe question

I need to know how I can set up a satellite based internet café with these specs,
    1. local computers where clients can walk in and use the internet,
2.remote clients, say home users and small offices can tap in and use some of the café bandwidth for their internet needs, say like an ISP
Is this possible? If so what are the hardware and software requirements, and cost estimates
this cafe is going to run on a commercial basis, with those walking in to access internet being charged cash and those accessing it from a remote site will pay through an account system, the main question is can i connect the remote users using antenas, or can they access internet using satellite dish to get a share of my bandwidth, at a cost. i need to know which avenue is commercially and physically viable

Yes , you can do so........
    But the requirements are:

    1. Very High speed Internet.
    2. A modem that has many no. of LAN ports and thus can distribute many number of LAN cables.

You can distribute the internet in other houses or offices by using LAN cables.

but you need to know if you want to open something like a kiosk or a net-bus... i want to know specifically.. i have heard this..

You would need clear line of sight between your base station and the consumer premises ariel to be able to get reasonable speeds.

Companies like Ubiquiti networks have the kind of products you are looking for.

Now the only problem you would enounter is getting bandwidth... Sattelite broadband is too slow and too expensive and would not be commercially viable to resell. To be able to resell bandwidth you need a connection from one of your isp there preferrably a leased line and then you would also need some professional help in setting up the switches and stuff and firewalls because you dont want one of your clients to mess something up and get every one else effected at the same time due to one customer.

The best way to start this is by looking arond and find a similar setup and see what they are using and then go from there.

How many homes are you looking to connect? I might be able to hook you up with some one I know Cape Town who deals with wireless networking equipment if you have a large enough project.

You can use "802.11n Wi-Fi Router". it is the fastest router.

see here: New 802.11n Routers: The Best Wi-Fi Yet - PCWorld

And the longest range router: longest range router

But I think the best will be distribution of Internet via LAN cables.....

Please mention the area ( Radius) to be covered. say 2 or 3 miles radius
from your location , and you have a Height advantage to mount a
WifI repeater, with your Internet service.
As told earlier, get a connection from
a Local ISP for your Internet cafe.
, which is easier to implement.

Here In India with minimum 4 or 8 systems, they charge usually Rs 10 to
Rs 15/= per hour for speed upto 2 Mbps.
    ( One U.S Dollar = approx IND Rs 45/=)
( Broadband access is from major ISp's like
    AIRTEL/BSNL/Reliance/TataIndicom and minor
    cable systems like Hathway etc.
Your concept more akin to TIKONA or Zylog
    Broadband providers.

For the second part for remote users,
you have to set up a tower etc, and
    install small Antennae in customers
    homes.
see Forum for Tikona ISP here.

Absolutely possible.. Oly opinion I would go is for wired link to connect the main server with ISP. U may opt to go for OFC. BSNL do have this facility even in remote areas.

As always said wired links are stable and distortion free..

Connecting remote clients to ur server can be done using wifi using viable beacons and repeaters.

Pretty easy setup.. U may mail me at sraban_ece@hotmail.com if u wanna more info or post her itself.
