1.Without entering the id and password of your telephone number, you can't connect
2.Your friend has a wifi router and his id and password is entered into the wifi router(PPPOE) mode, that's why he is able to surf
3.If you want to do that just buy a wireless router and enjoy wifi, after you buy the router please mention the model number here!

Broadband here is connected, the difference is in desktop you are connecting through ethernet cable.

And in laptop, you connect BROADBANDwirelessly,But remember, always be sure to check the usage, because your usage is still counted as you are CONNECTED to broadband, because you are on a limited plan

It is not necessary to have wireless router to setup PPPoE connection. Wireless router is required only for wireless connections.

@PRATS, you can configure your current modem in PPPoE mode. Once done, you will not have to initiate the connection using your windows dialer application; the modem will do that for you.

    open 192.168.1.1
    id admin Pw admin
Go to management and back up current settings to
say C:/My Documents/ WiFi on dialer mode
    Then
    select WAN edit 0_35
    edit
uncheck box "Bridged" ( *you use a dialer to connect )
    select PPP/PPPoE
enter your User Id without @ bsnl.in, and your PW
Save reboot ( preferably in Management Option )
    Wait for two minutes.
    Restart system.
More details in link WA3002_g4 link given below
Presume it is Nokia Siemens Networks 1600.

Book mark if found useful. Feedback.

    @prats
    1.
go to portforward.com select the modem/router model.
Then the application you want to PF.
    2.
Only hint that can be given is
    Open Advanced options
    Nat
    port triggering etc
    3.
Check whether your modem/router listed in any link.
There is a link for SL2_141 typeII router. (PF)
should be same for your router.
    4.
    feedback.
