Default How to prevent multiple wifi connections

I am using BSNL Wifi modem for my laptop to use BSNL broadband connection(wireless).
When any other wifi connection (may be neighbor's) is detected, my own active connection is interrupted/disconnected for sometimes, then it recovered and stable. but it happens frequently based on the availability of other connection.

How to avoid this disconnection ? And how to configure to use my own wifi connetion exclusively without getting interrupted by other connections.

    Please help me out.

    Please mention

    1. Modem - model and make

    2. Operating system

You can use MAC filter in your modem and set your laptop's MAC ID as friendly (white list).

Set your wireless connection as " preferred ".

select your modem from link WA3002_g4. given below
Use MAC address filtering as explained above
    check the Chennai bsnl links.
Keep the router Antenna parallel to the ground. and rotate for best signal strength .
How far you use the laptop in wifi mode ?.

    Thanks for the replies.

    1. Modem : Teracom T2-B-Gawv1.4U10Y-BI (BSNL TYPE II)
    2. OS : Windows XP

I am sorry, if my wordings conveyed a different meaning,

I don't have any issue with my modem. my wireless client(in my laptop) is showing two wireless connections when somebody switched on their modem, in that case, my own active connection disconnects and reconnects within few seconds.

My question is how to prevent the scanning for wireless connections in my wireless client(Cisco Secure Services Client) once it is connected with my own connection.

Got your point. But if you disable scanning of wireless networks you may not be able to connect to your own network. The solutions remain the same. Try the ,methods described in my first post. Just make your network as " Preferred " and create a white list.
