Question Modem is "ON". Will data tarnsfer w/o dailling?

Hi guys, i want to know that if my modem is "ON" But i didn't connect INTERNET by dialer, is there any possibility of data transfer or data usage? because i sleep at 12am by switching ON modem & PC. I'm using "BB Scheduler" to set timer for Dialer Auto Connect at 2:10am and Disconnect at 7:50am. And scheduled other d/w manager like IDM & uTorrent. What will happen in between 12am-2am if only Modem and PC is ON.

BB PLAN: 500c+ night unlimited 2am-8am

    Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you are using the bridge mode (using the dialer) to connect the Computer to the Internet. Please be assured that there won't be any data transfer if the dialer is disconnected. It appears that you've scheduled everything right. Check the BSNL's usage portal to confirm it.

It's time for you to go to bed. Good night and sleep well.

Modem reboot is required when it's configured in the PPPoE (always On) mode. PPPoE mode is used to connect multiple Computers simultaneously to a single connection. In this case, you can't dial from your Computer as the username and password is stored in your modem.

Since you're using the Bridge mode (refer my previous post), modem reboot isn't necessary.

    Hi,

yours is an interesting case.I also have BB500C plan but i dont keep modem and laptop "ON" when i am not using it.but I have noticed that sometimes when i have shut down the laptop and forgotten to switch off Wi fi modem there is some bytes accounted for in the usage portal. In 5 minutes it shows 12 kb Dl and 5kb UL.how can this happen? Please clarify this If you or anyone with similar plan know about this. Thanks in advance.

If you are in bridge mode, ie, you use a dialler to connect, simply disconnecting the dialler will assure that there will be no data transfer between the modem and server. But if you are in PPPoE, ie, you can connect to internet just by switching ON the modem, even if left idle, there will be some amount of data transfer. Normally this is negligible.

Check yourselves. Your IP will change every time make a fresh connection to internet.

Connect and disconnect using dialer and check whether the IP is changing or not. If changing, no need to restart your modem.

What Is My IP Address? Lookup IP, Hide IP, Change IP, Trace IP and more...

If you are using a dialer to connect and disconnect then there is no need of switching modem ON/OFF, every time you connect and disconnect it will be recorded as a new session.
