Speed of connection will almost be same. But you need drivers for it working through USB. Some users are of the opinion that USB is a bit slower than ethernet connection.
In ethernet LAN mode data transfer is usally rated at 100 Mbps/
and in USB 1.0 (old ) 11 Mbps.
For WIFI usually 54 Mbps.
But for speeds below 1 or 2 Mbps should not make much difference.
USB or LAN, there is no difference in Internet speed. As essbebe mentions above, typical internet speeds (256 kbps to 2 mbps) are way lower than the slowest of of the lot, i.e., USB 1.0. As we all know, USB 1.0 is almost extinct. Here is typical speed chart (in kbps):
- Dial-up internet: 56
- CDMA 1x internet: 144
- Basic broadband: 256
- Typical broadband (India): 2048 (2 mbps)
- Typical broadband (US/UK): 10240 (10 mbps)
- USB 1.0/1.1: 11264 (11 mbps)
- Wireless Router: 55296 (54 mbps)
- Ethernet: 102400 (100 mbps)
- USB 2.0: 491520 (480 mbps)
- Gigabit Ethernet: 1048576 (1 gbps)
