Thread: Shifting from Dial-up to Broadband

Hi..
I had taken a BSNL dial-up connection around 8 to 10 yrs ago. But then never bothered to shift to Broad band as i was out of station & used other services.

Now I'm back and wanted to shift my desktop to broadband service.

My question is - there are 2 types of connections... one is the smaller socket which generally connects the phone to the computer and the other is a bigger socket which is generally used for connecting computers on LAN.

Could someone plz tell me what type of connection is required for Broadband.
I need to know it since my desktop does not have the larger socket.

You need big socket to which you plugin the cords for PC to PC connection. Current modems come with USB and Ethernet ports (Big socket). Check with your local exchange.

I suggest you buy a LAN card. It is much better than USB connection which require drivers. It costs around Rs. 500. You can also buy a wifi dongle using which you can connect to your modem wirelessly.

If I was you I wouldnt bother buying a new LAN card for the box you are talking about if it had a USB port because its just not worth spending more money on that old box. Use the USB port for connecting to the modem.
