Default Help needed in connecting two WIFI modems

    Hi,
I need help in connecting two wifi modems.

    I have:
    1. One ZTE531B WiFi modem with 4 LAN ports.
    2. Another WiFi Modem Huawei WA1003A.
    3. I want to connect ZTE531B to my desktop on one LAN port & using the other LAN port on the modem I want to connect Huawei modem so that I can extend my WiFi area.
    4. I know the physical connections, my query is do I need to make changes or configurations to the modem firmware to get this setup working. If yes, can somebody guide me step by step.

Thanking you in anticipation. Hope somebody has an answer soon

    Regards
    Vikas

Presume second wifi router will be kept at a distant location. No firmware changes required.
1.You should be on "Always On" PPP/PPPoE in main system Modem/router.
    ( enter userID/PW in wan page )
    2. Enable DHCP in (lan menu page usually )
    say range 192.168.1.3 to 192.168.1.20
    3. In all systems
    Network/lan or wlan TCP/IP properties
    obtain Ip address automatically.
    4.
Check my sig link wa 3002_g4 quick reference

    Hi essbebe,

Thank you for such a prompt reply. I need a little clarification'
    1. I am connecting my ZTE modem to the main desktop. I have put all the settings for the usual setup i.e. for wired connection to desktop & wifi for my laptop. Now, default value for dhcp is 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254. My question is
you have specified a range of 192.168.1.3 to 192.168.1.20. Is it necessary to start from 192.168.1.3. Is 192.168.1.2 for the second huawei modem.

    Once this setup is working.
I connect the old huawei wifi modem using a lan cable to the zte modem and just go ahead an enable wifi along with security. or is there anything more that i need to do to share the internet connection between the two modems.

    Regards

usually 192.168.1.2 is reserved as default gateway for USBport connection in modem.
Is 192.168.1.2 for the second huawei modem.
( can be 192.168.1.1 itself. To avoid confusion set it as 192.168.1.2)

Giving range is your choice. Unlikely any one will connect 250 systems . So keep the range within limit.
Once you test either modem/router in one system, set up will work.
The ssid of each wifi router will be different.
    moderm firmware
. Changing settings in router does not mean Firmware changes. It remain same.

The RJ45 cable from One router to another maximum 100 meters possible., Unlikely you will need this much of cable.

If you use Windows 7 and wifi mode, an application called "connectify" makes your laptop also a wifi access point.( wlan card acts as a wifi router )
More advanced wifi routers do not need rj45 connection . ( Two of them link in wireless mode. WDM)

there is nothing complicated in the set up.
    Like a computer program,simplify tasks.
Follow details in Post No 2.
    Step 1 :
Use ONLY ONE wifi router,531B and test for lan mode in Desktop and WIFI mode in laptop
Do not use any security passkey for wifi.
    Step 2 :
    Repeat the task with WA1003A

    Step 3 :
Now in the same room connect a RJ45 from
    531B to WA1003A
    Step 4 :
Check in laptop whether both SSID's appear
( No cable to laptop )
    Step 5 :
    Any error message in laptop.
    Step 6 :
    Which WIFI you accessed?

    Feed back item wise required.

    Additional info needed :
    In desktop and laptop
    Start RUN type cmd
    OK
    New window
    type ipconfig /all
    copy/paste data here.

On your feedback a teleconversation may not be needed.

    Default I fixed it

    Hi Essbebe,

Did exactly as you said earlier too. Made changes to dhcp settings as you said it still did not work. So I was confused then With your last reply did ipconfig /all and found that my friend had specified fixed DNS servers in the rcp protocol setting of the adapter. This happened while I was pasting the results to my reply to your question. So I connected to each wifi and then removed the specified server settings and set the settings to obtain the DNS server address automatically. I dont know how this helped but both have started working. But I would like to know how it happened.
    Earlier
I was able to access internet from desktop.
I was able to access internet from laptop when connected to wa1003a but when i connected to 531B using laptop wifi I would get limited access - no internet msg.
Please explain if that is okay with you.
May I add you to my list.

    Default same problem again

    Step 1 :
Use ONLY ONE wifi router,531B and test for lan mode in Desktop and WIFI mode in laptop
Do not use any security passkey for wifi.

DID STEP 1 WITH 531B & CONFIGURED IT FOR ALWAYS ON CONNECTION

    Step 2 :
    Repeat the task with WA1003A

REMOVED 531B AND REPEATED STEP 1 WITH WA1003A

    Step 3 :
Now in the same room connect a RJ45 from
    531B to WA1003A

CONNECTED 531B WITH DESKTOP AND THEN WA1003A ONTO ONE OF THE LAN SOCKETS ON 531B
    Step 4 :
Check in laptop whether both SSID's appear
( No cable to laptop )
    BOTH SSID APPEAR ON LAPTOP
    Step 5 :
    Any error message in laptop.
CONNECTS SUCCESSFULLY TO BOTH SSID'S. HAVE INTERNET ACCESS WITH WA1003A BUT WHEN CONNECT TO 531B IT SAYS INTERNET ACCESS AS SOON AS YOU START BROWSING THE STATUS GOES TO NO INERNET
    Step 6 :
    Which WIFI you accessed?
    WA1003A WORKS FINE
531B CONNECTED BUT UNABLE TO BROWSE. SOME TIME SAYS INTERNET ACCESS & SOMETIMES GOES TO A EXCLAMATION MARK IN A YELLOW TRIANGLE

    Feed back item wise required.

    Hi Essbebe,

It works for now. Thank you so much. You definitely are the best. Words are not enough to express my gratitude. But this comes from the bottom of my heart. GOD BLESS YOU.

    I may trouble you again.
